  2. Thanks guys! As you might have seen from my other post I am about to cycle a new tank and am looking into what to stock....am really a newbie but like the look of some of those Bettas....how to they get on with tetras, brittlenoses etc...
  3. I'm kind of keen on keeping Siamese fighters....some question can I keep one in a communal tank? Anyone out there with experience with these fish? Any help would be appriciated. Thanks!!
  4. Hello everyone I've got a question about starting a new tropical tank....I am so new that I dont' even know what some of the fish look like....beyond guppies, tetras and angels and those ugly algae eaters(which I beleive come in many forms) I konw I'd like to have some really colourful fish maybe a bunch of tetras and some angels. MY tank is going to be around 350litre roughly...using a cannister filter/pump. How many fish can I have in a tank this size? Is there a calculator for this somewhere on the net? I know everyone will have their preferences but I just need some ideas of what fish are good in a community tank etc. I've been reading all about how to start the tank ie cycling etc...Thanks in advance to everyone.
  5. 300 bucks...brand new ....I think it's a good deal....what do you think?
  6. Thanks Ira, I'll prbably make up my mind sometime this week.
  7. Thanks Ira...is there any pros or cons with these tanks?
  8. Thanks for your reply....have changed my mind since my other attemp...the tank is in the shop...can't get a pic of it...maybe tomorrow
  9. Can anyone tell me if the tank I am looking at is OK. Why I ask is becasue I have never seen a tank this shape and wondered if the shape affects the tank's strength or not. I've been told it was made for a corner, looking from the top (ie top view) it looks like a big triangle with its three corners trimmed off. So it has six sides. The front pane is the largest, measuring 158cm, then two very short sides 15cm each, the sides of the triangle 66cm and the back is 35cm. The glass is 10mm thick the depth of the tank is 60cm. It has braces at the bottom joints as well as top. It has been made by professionals ie glass shop. It's a large tank. and never been used....what would be a fair price for such a tank? I calculated that it take around 376litres. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks.
  10. How about 50cm high? would that be all right?
  11. Thank you everyone....I will be dismantling the tank and trimming it down to a 30X1000X60 tank. Once again thank you all for your time and advice.
  12. Thanks warren for that information....is there anyway I add more glass like plywood to make the tank stronger?? It might sound like a stupid question but please bear with me I am new to all this?? So my question is could I laminate another piece of glass to make the tank work? Thank you in advance
  13. I have a tank measuring 35cmX100cmXheight95cm. It's a narrow tall tank....it has braces on top and it's made out of I think 6-7mm glass from a couple old ranch sliders. I have had it filled up for a few days (3/4 full) in the garage and it doesn't leak but I would like to know if there is any chance of it bursting over time? I believe the deeper the tank the stronger the tank has to be. What do you more knwledgeable members think?
  14. Hi Russel where can I read about this burst tank syndrome? I've tried looking for the thread but can't find it....I have a big tank but haven't filled it up yet...want to know if it'll burst or not....it measures base 1 metre X 30com height 90cm. It's a tall narrow tank....can you forsee any problems?
  15. Thanks everyone some good tips so far. It's an oldie but it seems to be going good have had it going now for a few days and no problems theflow is good. And as far as adjusting the flow- if I have it on full the fish gets pushed around a bit. And I will get rid of the carbon and put in some Bio-stuff.
  16. I have neve had a cannister filter before so I have some questions. I just bought a Fluval 303 the input tap leaks so I've just connnected the intake pipe strainght into the cannister, the output tap doesnt leak so I use that adjust the flow rate. It didn't come with a manual so I am learning as I go. My questions are: 1. Where can I get some rubber O rings for the tap? 2. I have foam on the top, charcoal in the middle, and pre-filter at the bottom. 3. How often do I have to change and clean the filter? I am alway worried that I'll wake up with my lounge flooded!! Strange that!!
