dont bake the baking soda. baking it will increase pH, dosing as is you'll have to use alot more but pH will probably remain as is, maybe even drop.
  4. yet another on this forum who make a mockery of others and a fool of themselves. 1. its quite clear how a vortech works, its not rocket science and clearly another remark by yourself to spark a reaction 2. at no point did i post to create a reaction, i posted in debate to you undermining closed loops which i happen to disagree with. 3. i initially agreed that the vortech is clearly a very awesome device and am quite interested in them myself, at no point did i discredit them im not interested in bringing this forum down like has been done on previous occasions so i'll leave it at that
  5. i dont know, who says he is?
  6. seems like you opened it up for discussion/debate reef? perhaps you need to keep on topic yourself. oh, and just for your reference reef, here's the forum guidelines again. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?p=39677 you might want to pay attention to the following...
  7. ...and the seio, they work perfectly in a refugium. provide adequate levels of water movement for a very low price.
  8. predominantely those that want good flow near the bottom of their tank, thats who. theres a place for closed loops, as there is a place for streams or vortechs or any other method of water flow for that reason.
  9. used to use photoshop, bit complex for what i need. use paintshop pro now
  10. and everyone's asking, how much more? roughly.
  11. bored so taking more pic's, this one's quite surreal. cropped and sharpened only, got to get a top quality camera capable of taking awesome macro shots, but this aint too bad. i love the colour comparison between the mushroom and coralline...
  12. i dont think he's overly skinny but could probably do with a little bit more fattening up. here's a photo i took 3 days ago, prior to the stream incident. doesnt look to bad in this shot... he's a poser seriously. camera comes out, he shows off
  13. they kick arse! love the small footprint, very cool.
  14. i think thats puttputt's point. cropping, resizing, sharpening (or lightening to match the subject) is not "enhancing", its basically giving the shot better clarity than the camera can provide. i dont agree with the colour enhancing (as in adjusting RGB, hue or saturation etc) if you have to do this, either 1. your corals aren't up to scratch or 2. you need a new camera  looking great!
  15. to be honest, it didnt look that bad 7 months ago either! nice improvement, different camera im sure of it - either that or different settings. great growth though, both tanks. awesome!
  16. are the only symtpoms being skinny? got a link to more info? all other fish are fat and he's the boss of the tank so usually gets more food than any other fish.
  17. On the reef, 12-15 years... http://www.brunsonimages.com/gallery/Tr ... sh_19.html Captivity, 5 years or older... http://www.fishlore.com/profile-pacificbluetang.htm Captivity, at least 8 years... http://www.tropicalresources.net/phpBB2 ... epatus.php Interesting... http://www.buschgardens.org/animal-info ... e-tang.htm
  18. yeah i suppose he is on the skinny side although front on he doesnt actually look too bad. he has got stuck in the past when he was quite a bit larger. i'll feed him up and see how he goes (in fact, i just gave them a feed and he got stuck again, doh!) maybe he's just getting old? not sure how long the previous owner had him, although i do know it was at least 3 years. that would make him at least 6. how old do tangs live for? 10+ years?
  19. point of the post being, just coz its a stream dont think its safe. the last fish i had die (CBB) was stuck to the side of a seio. would have been gutted if the tang died.
  20. woke up yesterday morning to find the tang stuck to the side of a stream. poor thing, not sure how long he'd been there. he's a reasonably large blue tang, about 6" head to tail, had him for about 3 years or more. still alive but looking worse for wear. took a shot of the side that the stream had sucked up on, damage clearly visible but he is eating and swimming around ok...
  21. i believe it was meant to be "wouldn't" attempt something like that - sad face because most are not skilled enough great job!
  22. what you upgrading to? 57 x 100W light bulbs?
