ha haaa! shall i describe what you ate for breakfast too? still, point of dicussion is that its still expensive - even if you're only going fish and live rock. were you not after coral - im sure i read somewhere you were looking for some. how much did you just spend on live rock that got shipped down to you?

4 foot, 220 litre marine then if you want to be particular about it.

Ira - depends on the minimum/maximum rate of his overflow - just because he has a 3300l/hr now, doesnt mean thats the minimum and that he has to stick with it. Its only (I assume based on your profile) for a 300 litre tank so a 1060 for the sump and the addition of a closed loop may suffice. You've only got better places to spend your money on than Eheims because you're tight - it amazes me why you're setting up a reef tank in the first place... unless it's a 15 year project.

    Eheim 2017

what pump did you have? personally, i would only ever suggest eheim for reliability and performance! a 1060 does about 2200l/hr

im only going by the info on the FAQ, see: http://www.eheim.com/faq.html#question4 it appears they dont make the 2017 anymore so they dont have an online manual for it. anything in the 20xx range is likely to be similar. otherwise, i think you're outta luck!

online manual for all eheim filters http://www.eheim.com/faq_man.html and you might want to be aware of this too... http://www.eheim.com/faq.html#question8
  11. A good read to get the basic's from a pro... http://www.austinglass.com.au/aquariums.html A couple of paragraphs taken from this site:
  12. Pies, response from Reefonline re: your hallides. I assume prices are in AUS$... Can do Radium lamps in either 10000K or 20000K for $165 each or Corallights 10000K/14000K for $140 and 20000K for $150. Ballasts and reflectors can be found on our site, or we can get any reflector made by Ablite (http://www.ablite.com)
  13. cool, i will make it up, take some photo's and post the results in due course!!!
  14. i think you should have 1.27 sumps
  15. problem is i dont have the width on the 2nd tank i scored (for free) i could do a long channeled baffle with sections as you have done, just not sure i will have the room. a long channel like this will also provide enough "room" to provider longer spaced baffles - so allowing better control of water flow. in regards to lighting, yes, already have a 900mm light hence the reason im using it (it'll become spare once the hallides go in) i can always place a piece of tinted glass over the end where the baffles are to minimise algae.
  16. well after discussion in the chatroom, this is a dumb idea as the water flow over the first divider is not sufficient enough for the media to do its job. Sitting the media below the water surface in the first baffle and adding a 3rd divider now with water flow under the middle one. Sick of doing 3d pic's... Comments, suggestions?

    Hahahaaa, just picture it!
  18. He he heee! Sweet as Brendan! Pies - I'll take your advice, anyways its generally only another $50 for a model up or another $50 for the next model up etc so a worth while expense now to save upgrading later if I put in a swimming pool sized tank
  19. there you go again ira, post without thinking. It depends what size VA UPS you get and the size of your tank (thus size of your heater). Heaters have thermostats so it doesnt mean its on all the time does it? The heater may only need to come on for a short period it bring the tanks heat back to normal so its not necessarily constantly chewing up the battery.

alan - yeah obviously, but you know what i meant! i'll add the word "male" next time joelay - my point exactly breakaway - tell them exactly what i said above, it'll get them thinking
  21. Pies - I think you have just justified your 'shutup ira replies'...
  22. Ok, so how about this design then?

I suggest you mention to them next time you're there that they are losing serious business by stocking beta hexes in an environment like this. Tell them you have many friends who are aquarists and they all believe that this is outright cruel and wont purchase anything from HFF for this very reason. Just because they say that betta hexes can tolerate water with a low oxygen content and confined space, it doesnt mean they want too. I dont think I will ever bother buying from HFF again. There is nothing that pisses me off more than cruelty to animals - especially for human pleasure or profit. Check this out. A dual tank so they can look at each other and flare their bodies and enhance their colours. They dont call them siamese fighting fish for nothing - no bloody wonder in a tank like this, simply made for human pleasure, but of the wrong sort... http://www.ask-the-vet.com/cgi-bin/goto.pl?service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=5327311&siteid=40583291&bfpid=53463&bfmtype=hardgoods oh, and breakaway - even if you can, DONT keep 2 betta's in your large tank or you'll be taking out a dead one the next morning!
  24. well dude it's generally all about price, cheap heater = crap, expensive heater = good
