Just thought i would put an update of my tank. It has now been set up for 2 months now. I have only added 10 diamond tetras into the tank, But i am planning to increase my school of cardinals and add between 30 to 50 rummy nose tetras in the next few months. I have been a bit slack and still haven't got the doors on as i have to do a bit of work on the stand as the hinges are too long and i still haven't go the co2 set up. Its been hard to find time since the Mrs has stopped working Saturdays and expects me to spend all my time with her  I am hoping that i can get some done this weekend. I changed my heaters in the sump and seems to keep the tank at a better temperature and fingers crossed that the power bill drops. I also increased the flow rate in the tank to about 3000lph Here are some photos that i took tonight Left hand side: Right hand side:

On my new tank which is 700mm deep i am just using 4t5 two plant growth and two day light bulbs. My fittings and bulbs are both juwel. And i find that my low/carpet plants are growing well. I do have proper reflectors on my lights. So i would say that you should be fine. I also had at 6t5 fitting on my old tank that was also 700mm deep but found it too bright and only ran it with 4t5s.

Yeah haha didn't think of that. to fix that i could just get two external thermostats. But then again i could have the same problem as i do now.
-
Yeah i generally run two heaters in my tanks just for security purposes. In this tank i have one jager 300w and a 200w jager but will be soon changing my 200w to another 300w. They are working fine the temperature is steady. I am going to get an external thermostat and plug both heaters into it so they will turn on and off at the same time

Thanks for that. I am just using standard black grit. It was ricca but my fish destroyed it so I don't have any now
-
I wouldn't know what temp of my house is a night. I thiink one of my heaters run most of the time because of the thermostat is out a bit. Its because my sisters have decide to have long showers. The cylinder is fine. i do my water changes with water that is around the same temp and has been fine before

I put my cardinals in a couple days ago bar the one i couldn't catch  After the last power bill my dad is going on an energy saving rampage. So i have to cut down to two tanks now. Anyone got any good suggestions on how to the cost of heating the tank? We have been thinking about cutting out some polystyrene panels to put around the tank at night as my tank is in the living room. Im considering getting one of the temperature controllers of fish-street.com to try and keep a steadier temperature and not to have one heater constantly going or that it seems to. I'm also looking into a low wattage pump Hopefully this weekend i will get my doors sorted and soon i will be able to get my co2 unit up a running once my plecos are in. I will hopefully have some more pics up next week

Thanks for the suggestion I will look into it

Thank you. I picked up 7 or 8 big swords last night and they help full the space up was looking so bare the other day

I finally have some more photos that i took last night. I still haven't got the doors on yet though. And we just got the power bill for last month and has gone up $200 form normal  But it is not all to do with my tank, ran out of hot water some many times. One out of three juvie trifasciata that i know of in my old tank
-
Has anyone used a sun sun jp-6000 or know where i can get one? Its only 50watts so would be really cheap on power and is 6000lph
-
What is a good low wattage but high output pump to run in my sump? I am wanting something that is around the 4000-5000lph

I had some of these guys but they died. Hollywood albany had some a couple of months ago if i remember correctly. Also pet stop has some awhile ago too. They are really cool.
-
Yeah I think about 5 or so of them are so once i have got all of the fish out of the tank that they are in I am going to get them there own nice and new tank.
-
Well my trifasciatas have bred. I found one small fry about 5-6mm long so they have bred some time ago. But dont know how many there are as i have only seen one. So i think i am going to have to get a new 4 foot tank that is divided in two. I also have put my small discus in the new tank and my clown loach aswell as he thinks he is a discus. I will most likely get him some more friends soon
-
I just purchased 15kg of them dont know if it will be too much or not. i was going to get 10kg but though another 5 would't hurt. Thanks once again for the help guys
-
Thanks for that guys. It will be submerged. I will get some of sintered glass noodles Dose anyone know the volume of about 1kg so i can work out how much to get

I have a sump on my new freshwater tank and just wondering what is better?
-
It wasn't a bad leak. most of it ended up behind the sump in the cabinet but i shut it off quickly so it was a bad mess
-
This is my tank as of last night. I still need to get more plants though. And here is a better photo of one of my trifasciata but still a bit blurry I can home today to find hundreds of eggs in the tank today from my black widows but they dont look fertilized
-
Here are some photos of the setting up i didn't take many as i kinda forgot. I was really glad that the stand came out really good. Now i just have to finish the doors The sump

Update: so my tank is finally up and running :happy2: . Now I just need to plant it and get some fish in. I set it up twice last weekend and both times my plumbing leaked  so I have had to empty it twice and full it up 3 time. That was 1200 odd litres gone down the drain and one really stressed out father haha. Lets just say I an't going to be a plumber anytime soon. I will try get some photos,up tomorrow.
