    Goldfish tank

same story, bowl came from the next door neighbours. Hopefully i can convince her to change it to a tropical tank. On another note, tank has been upgraded to 730Lx380wx380H so bout 100L

    Goldfish tank

I know the goldfish is wrong for the tank, i am trying to convince her to swap it for some type of tetras but for the meantime bubbles seems to be staying. He/she is small bout 4cm looks like some kind of fantail. I will see if i can dig up an old hob filter, until i get that sorted will 2 x 20% wc with a gravel vac every week be ok?

    Goldfish tank

My little girl came home with a goldfish bowl and goldfish. After many lengthy conversations I have convinced her that goldfish don't like living in bowls and we have got a 2nd hand 60L tank for bubbles. I know squat about goldfish, I was thinking of getting a small sponge filter for the tank or if anyone has any better suggestions for a cheap filter. Tank is 660x300x300. Am i ok doing 20L wc x2 per week as i have read goldfish produce a lot of waste. Any pointers greatly appreciated.
  6. nice one thanks guys
  7. I am looking at getting a small 2nd hand tank it is 600lx300hx310w. It has no bracing at all. Will this be an issue?
  8. I'll get the ball rolling. 5ft 90g with 20+ duboisi round 7-9cm mark with 2 leleupi (looks like it may be 2m) @ 4cm and 4 black calvus 4-6cm, unfortunately looks like 4males, already moved 1 out to the recovery ward as his tail fin was missing a few chunks. How bout you?
  9. Tank looks awesome!!! nice work and keep the pics coming.
  10. yeah i know what ya mean never had to many probs with the haps but i couldnt get the peacocks to settle. I 'd pull one out and another would take its place chasin all the others and forcing them into every corner of the tank. The corners were chokka with fish and the rest of the tank was fairly empty
  11. I agree, i think you'll need more than a 4ftr. How did you find the bulu points I have read that they are pretty aggro?
  12. His colouring through the face ( they have that almost fluorescent blue fleck) and the white blaze on his dorsal looks right its just all the yellow through him that makes me think hes a hybrid. Hopefully ryan can find some pics of his stock.
  13. There is a list of tank makers in the commercial trade section not to sure on how you'll go on delivery didn't realise you are in QT as it says tauranga as your location.
  14. I had one of ryans males beautiful fish. Mine had the slight yellow through the anal fin but the body was solid blue yours seems to have a lot of yellow through him will be keen to see what ryan reckons. They are nice peacocks shame you don't see them round anymore.
  15. Agreed. Looks like it has cobue in it but has something else as well by the looks of it.
  16. Tough one. I had an all male peacock hap tank for about 3yrs ended up closing it down and starting a troph tank. I do miss my peacocks but no matter how hard I tried I could never get a good balance in the tank and was always removing fish that were to aggro, usually my faves. I have a colony of duboisi now with a few leleupi and black calvus. I am really enjoying keeping the trophs while it is not as colourful az a malawi tank the trophs are way more active and they kinda school around the tank and it is such a good tank to watch. I think you will enjoy either option you go for imo an all male tank is alot more work and requires a bit more patience. Good luck.
  17. Nice one. What sorta substrate do you have. Seems weird it is still cloudy after a week considering the tank was empty and nothing was stirring it up.
  18. Well done mate looks like all the hard work has paid off. Gonna look nice full of dems and yellows
  19. Wow thats expensive. Just my opinion but you could get a custom made tank and stand for less than that. Theres a good tank builder on here (greg from tanks2u) I'd get a price off him and there are a couple of shops in auck who build stands if you don't know anyone to build it for you. The footprint of that tank is not very good for Africans, they need width. If you are investing in new tank go for one that is 600mm wide. Length and width are more important than height. I got a 5ft tank from greg and me and my oldman knocked up a stand and all up it prob cost me just over $500 so its def worth looking into
  20. Yeah mate thats the easiest and quickest way to cycle a tank. When I set mine up I ran 2 canisters smidey gave me one of his already established canisters and I gave him 1of my new ones. I added fish straight away worked a treat. Swapprd canisters a coupla weeks later.
  21. Nice one mate lookin good. How are you cycling the tank?
  22. Fill it up!.......fill it up!
