  1. is it behind the filter, or under it? I could see something jumping down there.
  2. How did he just go missing? A bit like my Sliverfox that went missing in the tank in my garage later to be found on the floor, all dried out like a Sardine :tears:
  3. Nothing at the moment  Will have a couple of shellies soon!
  4. Just an update, I still haven't had any luck with getting anymore fry. I think they laid some eggs a couple of weeks ago (I could see the eggs as there was a load of hairgrass in the way). However, I went away that weekend and there was no sign of them when I returned. A couple of questions, 1. How many times a day should of be feeding them? Is it best to feed them 3 or so times a day, but small amounts each time? Or, should I just feed them once a day? 2. Does the KH level really matter for these guys? Mines aways very low, and my PH is normally around 6.5 -6.8. There has never been a PH swing in the tank however. Would it be advisable to increase the KH with those Seachem products, and then amend the PH back down after I have increased the KH? Or is it best left alone? Cheers, Fraser
  5. Yeah I lost the top as soon as I set it up. It rattled WAY too much for my liking! Mines about two meters away from my head when I sleep as well. From my experience with with Aquaclears, they do settle down after about a week of running, so fingers crossed I guess.
  6. Now you sound like you are getting a little too technical haha. The Aqua Clear that came with mine is not that quite, so if it doesn't settle down over the next couple of weeks I might just put one of those mini marina internal filters in there as its in my bedroom.
  7. Yep, thats the one. The Marina C25 has the same power output. It's the same heater just re-packaged. A sump... now we are talking, where were you planning to put the sump? You would need to drill holes in the tank right?
  8. Cool, I think led is the way to go. Are you talking about the compact Fluval 25W heaters? If so, thats the one I have, they also rebrand them under the name Marina. They are very small, and do not heat as well as normal 25W heaters. Fine for the summer months, but I can't see them handling the winter months...
  9. Yeah I went with the Marina as I wanted something thing tiny and minimal looking. It's not doing such a good job... It's over 20c in my house and its only just maintaining the tank temp at 25, over night it dips down towards 24. I don't think I'm going to be able to run it over winter... Do you know what type of lights are direct plug in replacements to the standard ones? I wouldn't mind getting ones a little more natural looking.
  10. Waterlogged, What heater are you using in your edge? I got one of those Marina C25's for mine and it's struggling the raise the temperature. The room temperature is just about the same as what my tanks currently siting at!
  11. Yeah I think the larger one out of the two would be ok. It has adjustable lights, which would be pretty cool at night. I still think the Edge has the edge though I'm going to run with a pair of shellies for mine. I know its probably a tad small for them. However, it does seem to have a large footprint which I guess will help a little.
  12. I think that's the Fluval Chi... I think the Edge is a little more awesome. The Chis is something you would more likely put on your desk. What type of fish have you got in yours?
  13. Your PH will be at it's lowest point in the morning if you are leaving your C02 on over night and whist the lights are off. If you think your PH is "too low" I would recommend disconnecting your C02 when you turn your lights off at night. Do a test the next morning, your C02 should be a little higher. I would not recommend adding shells to your tank if you are running DIY C02 before trying everything else! You should also measure your tap water to see what PH it's coming out of the tap at. You will need to stand the water for at least 12hrs before testing. Do you have a KH test kit?
  14. Well what I do with my DIY C02 setup is unscrew the cap on the top of the bottle after I turn the lights off at night on the tank. Cutting the C02 really does help keep the PH in my tank stable. I have run tests to confirm this... My understanding for this is, the plants do not use the C02 in the tank at night, therefore, the C02 left behind takes its time to disapate from the tank water. (I'm going to leave KH out of this to keep things simple) For example, my PH at the end of my light cycle is 6.2, in the morning before the lights come on it sits at around 6.4. I tested the tank over the course of a week and readings averaged out around the same, and never a variance of more than .1 My tank is 300L and is heavery planted, so this will have an impact on the outcome of my results. However, I'm pretty happy with DIY at the moment. Cheers, F
  15. Hey bro, You couldn't tell me which Reg you ended up ordering could you? I have seen heaps on ebay, but just can decide which one to go with. I'm also a little worried about the Reg just dumping to left over gas into the tank once it starts to empty. I have heard this can happen with cheaper ones. Cheers, F
  16. I would move really fast if you do want one. They are totally discontinued from what I'm hearing from all the stores I have been calling. I managed to get a brand new black one, which is been sent up from Hamilton. $300, BUT hey, its a bit of bling, and will look pimp in my new pad, right guys??
  17. No luck word on the street is they are no longer importing/making them!
  18. Yeah I called that store and they said there was one there for $150 however the bottom stand was missing. I think I'll go with the new one for $300. Have you upgraded your lights yet? I spotted this one on uTube which someone had added an extra 5 spotlights, and had made the box on the top a little larger so the light reached most of the tank. It looked awsome!!
  19. $70??? did you have to ask them for a deal or what?? :happy2:
  20. Hi there, Does anyone know the New Zealand Retail Price for the Fluval Edge? I'm pretty keen on getting one, but if its going to be super expensive I'll probably just look at other options. Cheers, F
  21. What about those Fluval Edge Aquariums? Now they look pretty cool!
  22. How much do they cost over here?
  23. Hi mate! Looks as though the Rams are at it again!
  24. Yeah I could probably deal with nasty fumes... However, I reckon it would only take a matter of seconds for a small garage to go up of it was covered in standard poly!
