    blue spectrum

ok thanks, it made me wonder because there seems to be more algae in the rear of the tank and less at the front which just has a t5 bulb as opposed to a blue light

    blue spectrum

can blue spectrum lighting cause algae growth on dead coral in fresh water?
  3. hi is there anyone in the eastern bay of plenty that keeps and breeds africans? im really keen to get in contact with anyone that does, for swapping and purchasing fish
  4. thanks everyone, ill make some inquirys
  5. hi ryan, dont worry mate only want the 2 tanks for quarentine, beaten up fish, and to put the odd female in that is holding, the other two are for rams and kribs. i saw you can buy 4 foot double bulb light units for 60 bucks at bunnings, might be a better option for me than playing with electricity. your idea sounds cheaper though
  6. hi im trying to set up 4 2 foot tanks as cheaply as possible and looking for ideas, 2 i want for africans so have used small lime chip as a substrate which alone has raised my ph to 7.5 which im thinking should be ok if it dosnt drop below this. all the tanks have undergravel filters which im hoping to power with the one airpump which will provide oxygen to the tanks as well. now im stuck on lighting, does anyone have any ideas on how to provide light inexpensively? the tanks will be about 2.7m long all together with a little gap between each tank

    brown algae

true, it does look more natural, ive heard of soaking in a bucket with vinegar over night is another way. probably not as cost effective as boiling though, id need alot of vinegar. thanks for your reply
  8. hi, ive had an african tank running for about 3 months going really well, but in the last 2 weeks the bright white coral which cost me a fortune is developing brown spots, but only on the coral, not the sand or glass. the fish seem to enjoy nibbleing it but i think it looks fricking ugly, the water is crystal clear with no odour, tank is out if direct sunlight, can i stop this with an algaecide or something? i expected the coral to go a bit green but didnt expect brown spots
  9. thanks guys, i will get sum

    hello from newbie

thanks mate am quite excited, i thought i would use coral sands and live rock to alter ph as the bore water i am on can be as acidic as 6.4, also do you know of anyone interested in large american chiclids eg severums clown knife geophagus jack dempsey red parrot convict plecos. i am very new to africans but think i will try fish from the mbuna group
