  1. it is moving very slowly but stays right below the water surface. Any ideas? I cant tell diff between platy and guppy yet, its an orange one, but the other orange fish looks diff so one is a platy and the other a guppy. What would cause him to move so close to the top?
  2. They are so tiny its hard to see if they move. But they only float in an upward movement. I added rock salt and increased the temp so hopefully im on the way to dealing with it properly.
  3. Thanks, my camera is kaput I have sought advice, turned up the temp and added rocksalt. shall see what happens, thanks for your input.
  4. Not sure what you call the filter but it sits inside the lid and has white cotton like material, little black things on one side and white circular ones on the other. I am not sure about them being just water bubbles as it is the same as what has attached to the fish, i do have bubbles from the filter but they are much bigger, these just come up from below and settle at the top, not noticed them before today.
  5. Thanks, yes they look the same and what spots come up from the bottom settle on the top, there is now a very thin fine layer of those tiny little silvery white sparkly little dots, they are very very small but yes the same as what floats/swims sits on their tails. One of the fish constantly hides at the top of the tank behind the black top of the filter inlet.
  6. The question is how do I treat them? I am very new to this hobby and need all the help I can get.
  7. Yes it looks like little sprakling grains of sand, things in the tank come up from the bottom and make their way to the top, can't decide if they are swimming or floating. I also picked out a few weird looking things with a solid centre but fluffy wooley on the outside, about the size of a tiny pea.
  8. some fish have them on their tails and sides. I also noticed some weird spots on inside of tank, looked like fingermarks but when i remove them they reappear after a day or so. Is this something I need to do something about? :-?
  9. How can you tell your tank has cycled? Also when do you clean the filter, mine sits under the lid beside the light, the white fluffy material is looking grey. It has been in there since we installed the tank about 4 weeks ago. We started of with 12 fish (yes I know now way too many) since then 5 have died The last one I found dead this morning. Amonia level has been tested and is ok so is the nitrite/nitrate levels. I keep thinking we be ok from here on but keep finding dead fish One of them is pregnant and I am hoping to have things sorted before she drops them. Some suggestions from more experienced people who have solved similar issues would be very much appreciated PS Fish were only added 10 days ago since then regular water changes and testing been done. - 6 tetra Neons 2 died, 3 assorted platy, 2 died and 1 male guppy 2 female - 1 died.
  10. is that for certain fish only and is it just normal peas, dried or frozen?
  11. Hi there, he is still much the same, moving from edge to edge and when he spots me with his one eye he swims a round or 2 and settles back in a corner on the bottom of the tank. I did the dewurming as per suggestion, but didnt notice much difference (yet).
  12. Yes we declared it, not knowing it wasnt allowed didnt realise it was still considered a living organism thats protected. The customs officer had a look, talked to us, and let us take it.
  13. How can you tell? All the tests done today I dont think agree with your diagnosis.
  14. Can we do anything with it to make it safe to put in the tropical fish tank? (50 liters with Neons platy and guppy)
  15. Check Ira's message s/he is asking me 'where did you bruy it' on 2nd thoughts it may be a typo and means 'where did you bury it' in which case the answer is, 'flushed down the toilet.' I hope that was the right thing to do.
  16. No I was replying to a question about where did I buy it.
  17. Someone asked where did I buy it answer was Animates in Henderson.
  18. Thanks everyone and I think the best advice is probably from people who have had similar problems and dealt with them successfully
  19. If I decide to use the aviverm, (I got the eyedropper with the 1ml measurement) do I drop it straight in the tank or dilute it with water from the tank or separate the fish I think is affected? I am happy to go ahead with it, I really got nothing to lose, the amonia level is not bad (is that the same as ph level?)
  20. Please dont be upset, I appreciate all the advice. I did ask at the birdbarn and they didnt know it was used for fish so I got a bottle for $21, not to worry can always sell it on trade me. Im now trying to figure out how much is 1 ml LOL. I did see some white wormlike bits floating in the tank when I did the water change, not sure if they are worms or faeces. Just looked and the worm like bits are gone, probably settled on the bottom of the tank. The red and black fish does swim a bit more but nothing like the others and the lovely lady who came to help me today told me that he lost an eye. One of the others is pregnant she said but the babies will be better off as food for the adults for now  Oh well, we live and learn.
  21. Here I go spending a fortune (small one  ) on a product that is suggested by someone only to then get others to say not to use it. This is the 3rd time in a week. How can I know which is the best suggestion and what to do? Some tell you to change 2-3 times a day up to 30% and someone else says that stresses the fish too much, but I already done it. PS a very helpful person came out to help me with amonia levels and nitrite - nitrate etc and that was sooooo very much appreciated. Some wonderful people here with some great knowledge but............!! :bounce:
