No,the altos eat the juli's fry and eggs -The juli's are fish making machines!

The diet is built for the trophs,leleupi,juli's ,probably not ideal for the oceallatus and altos,however they seem to be going well , the julis breed every 4-5 weeks so plenty of eggs/fry around usually for the micro predators to eat ,if you watch the video you can see some of the altos hanging around the barnacles where the juli's nest.

they are fed a mixture of the following -Hikari cichlid excel mini pellets -Hikari algae wafers -Nutrafin spiralina flake -jbl novorift -mashed pipi -freeze dried brine shrimp All my fish are healthy, if you follow the fish diet guidelines to the letter you would have to keep each tank with an individual species,which is pretty boring ,watching how the fish interact is half the fun

One of the cool things in this tank is keeping the alto's and the ocellatus together ,the ocellatus spend alot of time filling the shells up with sand ,then when they are covered the alto's come along and remove all the sand ,and then it starts all over again! Theres always something interesting happening in a tang tank

Thanks ,the altos are gold heads ,trophs -13 ikolas ,4 black caramba and 1 dub ,they seem to all get along really well .i think if the caramba were by themselves there might be an aggression problem,but imo because there is so much activity with the ikolas,the caramba's can lose one another when being chased,i guess the issue would be when theyre at breeding age/size weather to seperate them or not

Hi Morcs,i know this is a bit of an old post,I just did a search on words 'tinted sides'and brought up your tank ,I wanted to know did you find the tank 'too dark' looking ,were you happy with it? Im getting a tank built soon ,thinking weather to have tinted back/sides or just go with clear glass cheers

We recently sold our apartment,and are moving into a house ,so time to build a fishroom! Currently we have 2 x 4 foot on individual cabinets and a rack with 3x 3 footers on top of each other Planning to setup in half the garage ,so i''ll be working with an area of about 5m x 3m (roughly) Í'm thinking of a wide 8 foot tank ,4x4footers,my 3x3 foot rack at this stage. -Looking for ideas,photos of others fishrooms would be good ,especially interested to hear from anyone who concentrates on africans ,as far as recommendations for room design go cheers

JV did give me good advise(as they always have in past dealings also),it was my decision to take 4. As far as I am concerned,they are awesome fish hobbyist's.and i am sure i am not the only one that thinks that. The topic title is 'who has what tropheus?'' ,I understood it as a discussion of seeing how many people kept tropheus,and which varieties ,that is why i posted what i have.I wasn't intending to get an arguement going,sorry.

My plan is to grow them out a bit larger in the tank they are in now for a few monthes,then to put the ikola,dub into a larger tank ,then to probably move the caramba into there own tank with a few julis

Yes,i know they need to be kept in decent sized groups to spread aggression ,the dub was alone,4 caramba all that was available in that particular sized group ,ikolas,dub @4cm ,caramba@2cm .I will look to add more dubs when i see them for sale at the same size,doubt i will be able to find more caramba however

I recently brought some of Johannes's fish -13 ikola -4 caramba -1 duboisi Theyre in a 400L 4 foot tank with 4 leleupi planning on moving them into a bigger tank when they grow

I have an eheim pro 3 2075 ,its awesome, i have a friend with an FX5,i am sure the eheim is quieter, the eheim will be about $50 a year cheaper on the power bill aswell .
