  1. The co2 will change the PH of the water
  2. Hi A 12000L pond sounds awesome but I wonder about how damp that may make the house / shed / garage with all that evaporation :dunno:
  3. sounds like nit picking to me - maybe she needs to start looking for another job where she will be appreciated for the good work she does?
  4. yeah the feeling that some little shite has been through ya drawers and belongings is what got us the most.
  5. we were broken into the say after boxing day 2009 - our daughter still thinks about the buggers that moved stuff around in her room - thankfully shes not loosing sleep over it but still it sucks to have it happen
  6. Hi Sarah, If you are happy to swap new for old i have some noodles available - I'm in Miramar - tonight is water change night so is a good day to swap.
  7. Thanks for the ideas, im going to try more plants first - I might try to find a source of oxygen weed that is easy to get in big amounts ie a stream since the turtles like to graze on it.
  8. tell me about it - there is far too much rugby mentioned in the news - its rugby this rugby that - its unfortunate that i know that much about rugby !!! :slfg:
  9. yeah i know i have had other plants in the pond like the lily pads, oxygen weed etc but they eat them or chop them up so the lily pads end up floating away from the rest of the plant - so i need to find something else. Suphew gave me a bullrush which ive got in a bucket so im going to try that next and see how they get on
  10. I think the tails have had a little bit chomped out of them and I have lost one fish but otherwise they are all pretty good together
  11. Stephanie I have to disagree about the all blacks playing well - didn't they recently loose the tri-nations? I dont even follow rugby but because its getting so much airtime in the news im forced to hear about how crap they are.
  12. not a the moment - im going to get a few plants this weekend to try and soak up the extra nutrients in the pond - because there are turtles in there i need to find something that they wont eat - but i know thats going to be an issue.... do goldfish lay eggs on a surface or in plants ?
  13. There is 11 other fish in there so I hope one of them starts chasing her soon - shes getting sooo fat im getting worried she will pop if they dont get the jiggy on soon.
  14. as said before - people coming over are being ripped off - i know of people that were booking flights between akl and wlg months ago to take advantage of getting in quick etc and the prices were ridiculously expensive compared to before and after the games. airlines, hotels, motels and eateries are going to be taking the piss... the sooner its over the better. :an!gry rant over
  15. here is the fish in question - i think the coloring is normal but see how far apart the scales are, and in places there is nothing but skin
  16. If it is a female should I do anything about her or just leave her be? I was surprised to see the scales missing and now that I think about it she was very slow swimming about like she was very lethargic or something and kind of listing to one side when swimming near the current from the pump
  17. i was cleaning out the pond on the weekend and found a pink goldfish that is really really fat - like its bulging out the sides - i caught it and looked a bit closer and its missing quite a few scales on the side and underneath. the bulge is not uniform ie its bigger on one side that the other. is it full of eggs? or do you think its something else? i will try to take a couple of pics tonight so you can see what i mean
  18. he got ripped off - he could watch it on Maori tv for free
  19. nup not the only one bring on motorsport of any kind - IMO its so much better than grown men sniffing the crutch of another :rotf:
  20. oh right - it was a suggestion from someone - so thought it would be worth a shot but if its green water only then thats no good. what else can i do or should i just leave it and scoop up as it starts getting too much?
  21. i have been scooping it out with a net - that seems to work ok but as you say as soon as its disturbed it goes everywhere - i tired one of those industrial wet dry vacs but they fill up to quick (like 20 seconds) and takes too much time to stop and empty it, so my next thought was to try barley straw, but if that doesnt work this summer i might have another go at cleaning it out - i need to rig up my 6000l pond pump with some sort of hose that will allow me to vacuum it all up I'm not sure the fish are eating much of it as it doesnt seem to be disappearing - maybe i need more fish in there - i have 13 or 14 that are a decent size - maybe another 20 or so. the pond is about 2m x 3m x .5m which i think is about 2500L so plenty of space for more fish
  22. ive heard of barley straw and will look at getting some this weekend but is there anything else i can try ?
