  1. My tank decided to give up empty itself on the lounge floor and alas I have been told I cannot replace it. Managed to save all the fish and re home all but the adult pleco, it has been around for about ten years so would like it to go to a safe home. Currently the guys and girls at Carine landscaping in tauranga have him in their big tank. If anyone is interested or could give him a new home please respond. He is quite big, around 30cm. Cheers
  2. Been a busy few weeks away and having family looking after tank ๐Ÿ˜ฌ come back to a bit of an algae bloom. Almost back to normal. Glosso growing like crazy.... needed second trim. Finally added fish 13 neons and 10 Ottoโ€™s. Need to spend a bit of time at home to re adjust ferts๐Ÿ˜…...... maybe next month Trimed the tops out of the AR as well, they had grown out of the water. Glosso pearling really well. Good to have fish finally Now to sort the water clarity ๐Ÿ™‚
  3. First hair cut, replanted all the off cuts, water parameters looking good.
  4. 3 x 25% water changes and algae bloom under control ๐Ÿ˜… so far this is a lot easier in a big tank. Also changed dosing to macro and micro every other day. Increased bubble count to 3 per second New inhabitants are some red twisting worms...... if there were fish would be good food A lot of pearling and pretty happy at the growth. Added some filter media from my other tank to speed up the cylcling, will start to measure water parameters next week. Think I will trim the glosso this weekend..... closer to adding fish ๐Ÿ
  5. Week 3 - everything went smooth with family looking after tank. Had trouble for 2 days with co2 whilst away.... some how gas got turned off lol. Then had friends looking after. Algae bloom ๐Ÿ˜ฌ 50% water change, up co2 ferts same. Once onset control going to start cycling with food
  6. Week one - 50% water change added epsom salts. Increased dosing to daily. Small sign of white algae. Good colour on the AR roseafoila.......So far so good. Going away this week so someone else is looking after ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
  7. Thanks all ๐Ÿ™‚, Tank is 1000mm long, 400 deep and 500 high.
  8. Its been a while, but finally had the chance to redo my 200L fish tank and have converted it to a high tech set up. Moved all my other fish into another 200L that has been hanging in the garage. Plan is to have a Iwagumi style with 40-50 Neon tetras and 10 Oto's. Substrate - 5 kg JBL planting substrate 21 kg seachem fluorite black sand, random black rocks Plants - Glossostigma Elatinoides, Dwarf hair grass and 3x Alternanthere Reineckii - roseafoila Filter- Aqua One 1200 Lighting - one 49w Aquq one plant glo Co2- 2 bubbles per second Ferts - NPK 20ml and seachem flourish 5 ml starting every 2 days As per I get to excited to get going so after work I started, got it filled up and planted by about 2am. Lost a bit of contour in the process but I am happy with the result. Will post up dates as it progresses and the troubles on the way to hopefully what I want :-)

    co2

Gas pro in 129 newton street mt maunganui converted/ tested my old fire extinguisher and filled it for about $130. Also cheapest place to get soda stream refills $6. Valray regulator and solenoid have been using for 18 months and is excellent no problems with it. Also got all tubing, non return and bubble counter from him
  10. Well that filled in the blanks , that looks great, can't wait to see what your changes look like. There are not too many fluvel edge tanks on here so your post caught my eye. The main piece of advise would be to keep in mind trimming access, but I'm sure your already all over that. I only had the halogens with mine but I could never get plants to grow or keep it clear, so changed to those 7 LEDs. If you do go to co2 go with the soda stream option, one bottle will last 3 odd months on this tank. Also I haven't had a casualty yet, co2 on and off with the lights and there is no issues with ph. Adds another dimension to the tank with all the pearling and growth rate is huge. Getting the balance right was a challenge tho. Good luck
  11. Looks great. I had trouble with ambulia taking off and constant having to trim, great to keep algae at bay tho, I removed it after a while. Also my fern has grown.... Large leaves across tank, seems to not mind a trim. How long have you had it up and running? I changed the lighting on mine http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=60275 Also has co2 tho
  12. Thanks, not quite up to your standards yet !drool: I got the lights from c m lighting in Christchurch, about $14 each and the bases from a local electrical place. Cool light (white light) not warm light (yellow)
  13. Thanks, up until 4 months ago I was a complete plant novice apart from some java fern everything you need to know right here
  14. I replaced the existing 2 halogens with MR11 12SMD LED bulbs, 120 degree beam about 6000k. They fit straight in. I also cut up the base and added 5 more of the led bulbs as below. This tank was hard work and was about to be retired before i got the design etc from the net. Old Top & Base Cut up ready to be joined Joined Lights added New lid
  15. Kinda got the balance right..... finally. Had pics in different posts, just to put them in one spot From the first day First occupants Today Before trim After trim.... or hack really Now for the 200 litre
  16. sodastream set up is good for my 22L lasts about 3 months, switch on and off with lights Sodastream bottle from farmers $35.... refills $6 from gas shop Sodastream adaptor http://www.craftbrewer.com.au/shop/details.asp?PID=924 $44 (about a week to get here) Glass diffuser $12, bubble counter $8, non return valve $8, Hosing $5 and Regulator with needle valve & solinoid $115 from Valray (trademe)
  17. oh no  Hope things are getting back on track.... Keen to find out how your ferts are going and how much you are dosing when you get back how you want it
  18. Righto, Update.... Carbon kinda started to work but went back to cloudy so have removed. Next i read some where that willow tree shoots .5 - 1 cm thick added to the tank could help. So after finding a willow tree, which was surprisingly hard, i have added a few shoots to the tank. 2 weeks later i have a clear tank. Have continued the same ferts and have increased the lighting period to 7 hrs. Fingers crossed it stays that way. Need to do some trimming next.................
  19. sodastream set up is good for my 22L lasts 3-4 months Sodastream bottle from farmers $35.... refills $6 from gas shop Sodastream adaptor http://www.craftbrewer.com.au/shop/details.asp?PID=924 $44 (about a week to get here) Glass diffuser $12, bubble counter $8, non return valve $8, Hosing $5 and Regulator with needle valve & solinoid $115 from Valray (trademe) Saves the expensive refills of the little bottles
  20. !drool: , productivity will increase? I have said that i would get rid of the TV for something like that at home........... the rest of the house hold don't seem to agree..... oh well The pic of it in the office did remind me of a link from simonsaquascapeblog, if you haven't already seen it despite the narrator i did watch it all It is gonna be an awesome addition to the office, can't wait to see it.
  21. I started out at 6 hrs.... possibly could of been less for the first few weeks. Had a litte GSA, GDA and brown algae but seemed to stop appearing when plants /ferts got going..... but i will be at 6 or less for at least the next week You will be happier with nthe results of planting the glosso individually.
  22. Very cool, can't wait to see the progress  I have a similar tank in size and plants so will follow with interest
  23. Ha Me niether... plenty of reading Here is the plan.... Water change tomorrow and am going to add carbon in the filter for a week. Since the carbon will strip the ferts out i am going to keep the same dosing and keep an eye on any other form of algae turning up. Plants, recently have trimmed the Hairgrass and glosso but they are growing fast so will probably get another next week. The sword has tripled in size so might take a couple of leaves of that. Lighting will drop it down to 5hrs.......
