  1. i had a blue gourami do something similar. it just stopped eating one day and then just got fatter and fatter. its scales stuck out like dropsy and then finally it was on its last legs so i decided to disect it. it had a huge cavity inside it with lots of fluid inside. all its internal organs looked fine. maybe swim bladder disease? i dont know. it was so fat that it literally started tearing along the bottom of the fish.
  2. wow!! i dont know what else to say! what stunning fish you have =)
  3. hey bik bok. i had the same sorta thing happen with females guppies. these ones had seriously bent spines in the shape of an s. and yes i did find it went onto the offspring. not all of them only a few. still got one of them and shes real nice and fat and looks real healthy other than the bent spine. i would be contacting trademe in regards to the fish if you dont get a reply from the seller or maybe even paying her/him a visit. hope this helps.
  4. hey bobo i got 2 of these lovely little fish a few weeks ago and got up this morning to find our last one dead. he too had a funny lesion sort of thing between the tail and his bottom fin. as with you, our ph and nitrates and everything were fine. i dont think we should blame the lfs if this is something that is happening to people from other places too. it is very upsetting when you pay for something that looks nice and healthy only for it to die due to an unknown disease (especially with the price you pay to get them.) its starting to make me wonder if i should keep getting fish that have been imported or just hang around and keep my fingers crossed that someone, somewhere will breed what im after.
  5. hey mark just wondering how long it will take for this disease to disappear? (if you know) finally got round to a water change today (got food poisoning yesterday) and made sure water was the same temp as tank water. have had an airstone in since thursday night. fish only has a few more small blisters and the bigger blisters dont seem to be so tight anymore but just curious as to when the healing process will be done.
  6. thanx mark. have already added some melafix (one of my favs as it seems to work on most things) will go and put an airstone in now. would you recommend a small water change tommorow? had one planned for today but didnt get round to it. was mainly just to suck up the poop off the bottom.
  7. thanx phoenix. its one of kiwiplymouths offspring so i take no credit for how nice he is tank is around the 26 mark but heats up a bit more in the afternoon when i forget to shut the curtains and block the sun out.
  8. i only have them at about 6cm long. sorry cant be much help. would like to know a bit more about them though. have heard they can get quiet big.
  9. my cory has these funny blister type things on it and im unsure what it is and what to treat it with. it also looks like it has a bit of pop eye but am unsure. does anyone know what this is and how to treat? any help will be much appreciated.
  10. thanks for the advice ryan. not to keen on stripping her at this stage (scared i might hurt her.) we are aware that eventually we might have to move the yellows cos they could get nasty. bought them when they were only wee fellas so am hoping they have grown up with very little violence and they turn into placid fish. we actually have more problems with the 3 angels we have. (2 males, 1 female) the female is very nasty and attacks both males plus everything else in the tank!
  11. oh and tank is a 290lt i think
  12. male is roughly 7cm long and female a bit smaller at about 4-5cm long. temp is around bout 26 and i pressume the water conditions must be pretty good otherwise i dont think they would have bred. how big will the babies be when she spits them out? thanks for all your help.
  13. the old mans eletric yellows have umm done thier thing in the community tank (guppies, platties, bns, angels, tetras, swordies, danios and gouramies) the female is now holding. what should we do with her? werent expecting this to happen but it has and we dont know anything about mouth brooders. can someone help us out? shes not eating and shes hiding lots in the plants which i take is normal. will she be ok to stay in the community tank? any help would be appreciated!
  14. will try and get a pic tommorrow. they are around 10cm long and are very hard to catch lol will attempt it though. pond isnt very flash just a smallish pond with a couple of lillies (that dont grow very well) and some goldfish. i have a book on native fish so will check that out and see what looks similar.
  15. dont know if i spelt it right but its the only name i know them by. just wanting to know how long they live in captivity? caught them when i was 8 years old and stuck them in the fish pond with the goldfish and theyre still going strong!! thats 12 years! theres only 3 of them but i was wondering how they would go being put back in the creek where i found them and letting them do there thing and breed. or would it be a bad idea incase of disease etc? ta muchly
  16. wow!! sounds really difficult! in saying that though i still havnt given up.... i would still like to do atleast 1 import. looks like im gonna have to do lots of saving! i know theres alot of people who want more of the L species or anything else imported in so post what you would like and ill see what i might be able to do. (may as well make it worth while and import loads of fish)
  17. Hey everyone, i am interested in importing some fish into nz. i know it can be quiet costly but i wanted to know what are the requirements e.g do you need a license or something to import and how you would go about importing, the rules etc.... i want to do it cos pet shops have a high mark up on the fish the sell and you cant always get the fish you want. if this works out i would be prepared to import on other peoples behalfs and do the quaranteen period for them and all that jazz.
  18. only have the 1 and it was about an inch long when i bought it. its now about 4inches and it only comes out at nights. during the day it lives in a shipwreck ornament and is very territorial towards my corys and gba when they go into the shipwreck. i had never seen a bumblebee goby before so i assumed that what the lady sold me was one but turns out it wasnt.
  19. i was sold a bumblebee goby from a pet shop a few months ago and as it grew bigger i became kind of worried cos it didnt look like the bumblebee gobys that everyone on trademe had. i done a little bit of research and have discovered that it is not a bumblebee goby but an asian bumblebee catfish (Pseudomystus siamensis) possibly a nice chunky female by the looks of it. i have never seen these before let alone heard of them. i was wanting to know if anyone had one of these and if so what are thier experiences with them. i think this fish is the ugliest thing i have ever seen but cos its so ugly it has the coolest personality. in saying that, its not very cool when i wake up in the morning to find half of my other fish "missing" cos this thing has eaten it. google search name for a pic if you dont know what they look like
  20. if you ever find any let me know. i want some too
