  1. Where did the fern come from? Could have been sprayed or something? And did the inanga look normal this morning?
  2. We've had a few spayed who had odd sized ovaries, and the occasional one who's only had one. Always a worry to see if they come on heat but all of ours have been fine Most cats will get used to each other with time, hopefully you'll have a peacefull household back in a couple of months. Just make sure everyone has their space, and encourage any nice behaviour with yummy food - bring out treats when you've got two in the same room for example.
  3. Love that second to last pic of the redfin boy :nfs:
  4. he's so wide :nfs: I had a strange dream last night where I was diving in this river looking for huge bullies but all I found was a platypus
  5. Both of those are amazing tanks My koura come out of the water and climb around nibbling stuff in the plants, but they usually do it at night. What would you be putting in the bottom?
  6. Great It'll take a few works for her hormones to settle down but she should improve after that. It's always the girls that cause problems lol.
  7. Always better to ask first than have someone asking why their new fish have died in the sun
  8. What water conditioner did you use? Sounds like it's worth having on hand afterall. Ours gets filled with chlorine after rain too, and at other odd times. They do it strong enough to smell though. I've been paranoid about the smelt though and do 5% daily so it's not too much at once, and leave the new water sitting out overnight when I remember (it freezes solid this week lol) Are the rest still looking ok then?
  9. What he said. They need very cold water, under 18c or so.
  10. Give him a cuddle for me  Whatever you decide will be right, and vets are well used to people changing their minds and waiting longer. You know him best and you'll know when it's time to let him go. Thinking of you
  11. That second one has such a bully face lol :nfs:
  12. More plants in, still a few gaps to fill but i'm getting there Been slowly learning what all the plants are, when it's finished i'll post some close ups of them and the names. New pics..
  13. Most dogs 'mellow out', settle down into much more placid, easygoing adult dogs. Some stay crazy puppies forever. Some develop more and more troublesome behavioural problems and turn into neurotic bundles of nerves. Most dogs that don't bother with petting much as pups cause they're too busy enjoy longer cuddle sessions once they're adults. And most become much more relaxed about everything. I find all that basic manners training finally starts to settle in around the 18 month - 2 year mark, for a calm confident adult dog who does things without having to be asked or reminded.
  14. Thanks, spot on for the first one I would have thought the same about the second middle one, but it's in the middle of the pondy bits that haven't been dry all year and growing well, just took a photo of the ones nearest the edge amongst the grass. I'll keep an eye out for more in water or on land. I picked up a few clumps of plants which were floating downstream after the rain the other day, and there's some of that ludwigia type stuff there, so i'll put some pics up of it in a tank shortly.
  15. I haven't used it for dogs, but it's brilliant for sick cats that wont eat because their mouths are all ulcerated, and really underweight ones. You can rub it on their gums if they don't want to eat it and it's almost a complete food, concentrated. Hope he's feeling better soon
  16. Also, i'd love a koaro but i'm stuck on where to get one from, contemplating trying to find a couple at whitebait time to purchase and hopefully grow on.
  17. I'm going to spray them with a spray bottle until the tank's been filled, don't have that much gladwrap lol. Hopeing to cut the dividers up to be lids, might have to buy one more though. Need them to fit well to keep the koura in Moving the smelt, cran's bullies and koura into it, then adding a couple of banded kokopu and hopefully some inanga or more smelt. If I ever see any locally then redfin bullies too
  18. Progress! Got this much done before I ran out of plants. Will have to go for another walk tomorrow and grab some more It's a mix of mosses, grasses, epiphyte ferns and other little parisitic plants that grow on rocks and tree stumps, from the damp parts of the bush, and some mossy sticks and things to help hold it together. Siliconed some, stuck some into the polystyrine, and will probably staple a few bits too. Stringy willow roots shoved into the cracks where the joins where. I'd decided early on to can the shelf on the left, then over the weekend changed my mind and put it in, but it wasn't painted so looks a bit grey and ick for now. Will be completely covered with the plants though. On the right side shelf (last pic) there's pebbles glued on where the water will go from the filter inlet, same pebbles that will be on the bottom of the tank.
  19. Is he drinking? Have you tried something like warm stockwater from boiling a bit of fine mince? And have you got nutrigel for him?
  20. Have you tried tinned sardines? The ones in 'spring water' not salt or oil.
  21. Was the creek clear? Most of it will settle down over a couple of days, just looks mucky in the mean time. You can speed it up by putting a stocking over the filter outlet, to pick up more of the particles. I didn't wash mine though and just let it sit, clears up fine.
  22. You lucky thing, that's an awesome tank :bounce: So what's going in it?
  23. So Mika is ok with yours, but they're nervous of going upstairs to use the box when he's there? Get some more litter boxes, just use old cardboard boxes, and put a couple of spares around different parts of the house so no-one gets caught short. I'm guessing they're inside cats? And Cola is being nasty to everyone and is shut in a bedroom? I'd leave her shut in the quietest farthest room to settle down for a few days and for her milk to dry up and hormones settle, she's probably rather sore at the moment. Then if she's going to be staying much longer, get her spayed, then slowly reintroduce her to the others. But how long do you have them for?
