  2. OK I have been told and read these little beauties are hard to breed.. I have 2 tanks 40lt set up with a pair in each..temp 26 deg..sand bottom..2 clay pots and some java moss. 1 pair have laid eggs 4 times ..always in hollows in sand never on rock or pots. after they have laid I make sure there tank has live food at all times, ie daphnia & mozzie lava but every time one of them eats the eggs the next day. any constructive advise would be appriciated please. Darrell

  7. I have a tank set up with 1 male & 2 female steel blues and both female's have free swimming fry as from yesterday. Each has taken up a back corner with there fry. At first I though one was dashing over to the other & eating one of her offspring, then dashing back to her corner...but having left them to it all day I can now see what she has been up to by the size of her 'brood' compared to the others. She has been stealing the others fry & including them with her's...now has a swarm of fry at least twice the size of her 'friend' I wonder if by tomorrow the poor female will be 'fry less ' Lots of fun.

  20. anyone else tried this ? I was eating my lunch ( peppered steak pie ) in the fish room yesterday and my red jewel cichlid fry 3 mo were at the glass saying ' can we have some ' so I threw in a peice of the crust and watched them devour it..this gave me an idea so I got some of my cats dry food and gave them some which they put away at short notice. now this begs the question should I keep paying for over priced pellets from LFS ?? comments please.
  21. as requested here is short intro to silver-foxx, 35 odd years ago I had the largest private tropical fish breeding setup in NZ now have 20 tanks for last year trying to find something to keep me busy in my retirement and as my wife died in her sleep not long ago I need something to keep me going. have bred this time around, angels..danios..koi swordtails..red jewel..kribs normal & golden..plecos..( short term memory loss..can't recall the rest ) now changing fish room to breed dwarf cichlids.. I love trout fishing, ancient history, looking after my grandkids, Jim Beam, breeding tropical fish..oh and Jim Beam or did I say that before. thanks for taking time to read.
