Yeah it used to put me off too ... but hubby found gold nugget plecs and has bought 3 of them at ~$160-$190 each .... I reckon I should be able to get a discus or two - just don't have the room for them at the moment Very nice discus LyndyLoo

interesting .... if my cat can't 'see' where he's going in the car, he crys and crys. If its just me and him travelling, he sits on the passenger's front seat (in a cage), facing forward and is quite happy. He doesn't really like the back seat. When he was only 4-5 months old, we used to take him for trips over the port hills and back, once he got used to that we always had to check the car before going out if we'd left the windows down cause he used to climb in and hide in the boot (we have a station wagon) - hubby got a couple of kms down the road once and he jumped up front - had to turn around and take him home again He's not so keen to go for rides anymore, and it can be a bit of a pain getting him in the car, but once we're under way he settles down - till he gets to the vets! Our family cat we drugged when we moved from nelson to greymouth - when he woke up he was walking backwards, sideways and very disorentated so wouldn't recommend it especially moving to a new home where everything is different. Something to calm them down if they don't settle in the car is good, or short trips before the long one to get them used to travelling. Good luck with the trip

Awww ... no eggs left already ... oh well maybe next time May move things round a bit cause we have a clear divider in the tank with another pair on the other side, and the pot they laid on is by the divider so they try to fight through it (hence the reason for it) .... been meaning to move things around anyway so will prob do so this weekend before they decide to have another go ... took about 10 days between this one and the last time.

I think its just their eyes Is that normal??
-
Which is quite exciting - last time they did it I missed it, noticed the eggs then looked about 30 minutes later and they had eaten them all So this is there second attempt: Female laying eggs Male doing his thing They seem to be eating a few but the female is actually fanning them this time so hopefully something will come of all their efforts ... though I have just been informed that they are still eating them I'm not too fussed (because I don't really have the tank room for more fish right now) - I'd like them to be able to raise their own babies but how many times do they eat their own eggs before they learn not to??

We are watching it very closely, At the moment to be honest I would be more concerned about the SAE then the nuggets. He the SAE seems to just ignore them and look unhappy about it or move. We have added an extra cave since photo was taken so hopefully this will alleviate things

Just couldn't help but show these ones off - they are the latest addition to my tanks My Siamese Algae Eater is not looking too happy that his cave has been taken over. We have another one arriving in a couple of weeks and the ultimate goal is to breed them - which will be no easy task from what I've read but I'm always up for a challenge!!

I have several tanks so I will answer your questions several times * what dimensions is the tank? 90x45x45cm * does it have lids? yes * what filter do you use and where is it located - if canister, where are the inlet and outlets located? fluvil 403, intake 6 inches from heater outlet on back wall at other end of tank * what size heater do you use, where is it located compared to the filter, and how is it orientated? 200w 45deg angle * where is the tank situated in relation to a draughty door or hallway or window etc? yes it is near a door, but not draughty and it has curtains * what are you using to measure the temperature and where is it situated compared to the heater? currently hanging off outlet bar, but have also placed it nearer top of heater and i still saw the same inconstancies * what dimensions is the tank? 90x50x60cm (10mm Glass) * does it have lids? yes * what filter do you use and where is it located - if canister, where are the inlet and outlets located? aqua one cf1000 outlet near heater intake at other end of tank * what size heater do you use, where is it located compared to the filter, and how is it orientated? 150w virticel - some might say this heater is to small but more oftern then not the tank gets to hot rather then cold * where is the tank situated in relation to a draughty door or hallway or window etc? no draughts * what are you using to measure the temperature and where is it situated compared to the heater? currently on middle of back wall (in bubble wall)

I have several brands of heaters (all fairly new - under 3 months) an all of them seem to regularly go AWOL and either don't heat when they should or heat when they shouldn't. I target 25deg with all my tank and after getting it stable for a few days I often find a tank has dropped to 22deg and the heater is not on or it has risen to 28 and the heater is still on. Are there any models/brands that are more accurate/reliable

What do you use as a thermostat? -
Just in the process of arranging a new tank to be built it will be 145cm L x 39cm W x 45cm H so quite long compared to its width and was wonder about heating the tank from underneath instead of 2 internal heaters. Has any one used under floor heating like hotwire or warmup to make a custom sized under tank heater? If so how did you do it what is your setup like what brands/products did you use?

What are the best ways to run aquariums efficiently and well insulated without harming their visual appearance? For us the following is the order of most power usage 1) heating 2) lighting 3) filtration & air Does 10 or 12mm glass insulate much better then 5 or 6mm?

Hi A tank of our fish have just got white spot, In this case we have tracked the source down to some plants that we bought on during the weekend, as our friend's tank also has it (we got the plants from the same place and it's the only new thing that we have both introduced into the tank) Is there any way to tell if a plant has the white spot fungus before we put in it the tank? Has anyone quarantined their plants before adding them to their tanks? We are also treating with malachite green and have read that it is not good for live plants? We have removed the new plants from the tank but is it really a little bit late for this? Only one of our tanks has white spot at the moment, so we've removed the new plants from other tanks that are not yet showing white spot and are also treating them at this stage. Should we put the plants into the tank that has white spot to be treated? Or should we get rid of them? Or should we do something else? Sorry for all the questions, just hoping someone can point us in the right direction.

March meeting for ChCh Totally Tanked
humvee replied to carznkats's topic in FNZAS & Afflilated Clubs
Myself and my wife are keen to attend do we need to RSVP to anyone? -
Well this one is quite a bit fatter than the other female that I got ..... Looks like I might have some random babies earlier than expecting. I am planning to develop some stronger colours for the ones I got ... will have to wait and see cause she was in a tank with a whole heap of others (who knows which male was out of control) Guess this will give me some more time to find a mate with similar colours to her... Thanks for your help

Hi I recently got some platies from my lfs, with the plan of breeding them. I'm just wondering how to tell when they are pregnant - not expecting anything yet as I've only had them 2 days but noticed a dark spot near the anal fin of the yellow one - help anyone?? (Sorry about the photo - still working out best way to photograph fish that move way too fast)
