Put washed oyster grit in your filter or if you can't do that sprinkle on to gravel. This will raise the PH slowly so as not to stress the fish. OG is cheap at the pet shop and the bird one is also safe to use if they haven't got the aquarium brand. Use around 1 cup.
  2. Well I will give it a try and let you know the results.
  3. Haven't heard of Nitraban but there is Nitra Zorb. No looking at carbon options and an added benefit of Purigen (which is a replacement synthetic product and is also rechargeable) is removal of nitrates. Just wondered if anyone used it. From what I have read it is particularly useful in cichlid tanks where they are such voracious eaters and therefore more likely to create higher nitrates.
  4. I am looking into using this product and would really like some opinions particularly in regard to removal of nitrates. Thanks in advance.
  5. We have tried them all and now all our rentals have Eheims - definitely the best available and can be programmed up to 4 feeds per day.
  6. They don't seem to be a problem with American Cichlids either.
