Thanks guys. What kind of filter would you guys reccomend for a lightly stocked 540L?

Hi everyone. I tried selling all my marine stuff off but I've been left with the tank and light. Seen as I've gotten rid of the sump it's given me more room so I thought I might keep the tank 5 x 2 x 2 foot. And set it up as a freshwater tank maybe. Was thinking few Bolivian rams, possibly create some sort of biotype any body know what come from same region as Bolivian rams? Also got t5 lighting so might try some plants as well, ideas on these from same region. Thanks

It may not be the amount of anemones you have that could be bad, it's going to be what your feeding them, say if your feeding them each a piece of musscle or some frozen food your water is going to go foul without a skimmer or regular water changes if you have a larger number of anemones. Just my 2c

Yup you can take crabs and things from the rockpools. I have a nz saltwater tank (coldwater). I don't any tropical crabs are imported , sometimes you get them with some corals as hitchhikers. If your going to have coldwater crabs your going to need a tank that is kept cold, with the likes of a chiller. As they want survive in tropical

Yea saltwater, although i think there is some freshwater crabs. But do you mean tropical saltwater as in Clownfish (nemo) or like saltwater fish and crabs from new zealand like fish and crabs you get from rockpools?

Blue tangs and most/all tangs would get to big for a 2 foot tank. Clownfish are fine in smaller tanks. You can't have seahorses with fish, as the fish will out compete them for food. Anemones and corals etc can be bought in pet shops, but make sure you have the correct lighting levels some corals require more light like acro's, mushrooms are fine under lower light. You can either use NSW or ASW, (natural salt water or artificial saltwater). Artificial can be bought at petstores, and you have to mix it with freshwater, others myself included use NSW, which is saltwater just collected from the ocean. I would reccomend you get a good protein skimmer though. And don't skimp on the cost :bounce:

Decided I want to set up a planted tank, miss having a tank in my room ( My saltwater in the spare room now, too noisey for my room) so setting up a small tank 110 litres or so. Well i want it to be pretty heavily planted with a few smooth rocks and some driftwood. I got the tank, will use daltons aquatic mix and that propagating sand is it? And will be getting a cannister filter soon but I don't want to run CO2 never looked into it or anything so just want to leave it for now anyway. I got a 150watt metal halide here and i was wondering would that be to much without CO2? would be running a 6500k bulb. Cheers everyone
