  1. I think you should save your money and get a bigger tank for the fish you have, or sell the fish you have and buy fish more suited to your small tank.
  2. You sit and watch guppy fry grow all night
  3. Well I learnt what a Charophyte is!
  4. Are Dwarf Chain Loaches ok with BN's? im thinking of getting some to hunt snails

Thanks As to the Blue Mystery Snails there are some on trade me http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =261063914 I really have no idea what other fish i want yet and ill probly get about 6 Danios and 6-10 glass catfish. I wanted to get somthing with a bit of colour as well but i havn't found anything just yet and this is all way in the future as i havn't even started yet lol
  6. im planning on getting some sort of Danios (will use these to cycle the tank) for my new tank and i was hoping to get some glass catfish as well. would they be ok together? Also I have an Aleas brand 200w heater that ive never used (it has been used though just not by me) and was wondering if they are ok (brand wise) and if 200w is ok for my tank? Also is it ok to put Blue Mystery Snails in with the fish i want? Tank is 740mm long 320mm deap and 450mm high (100L). i have put fine black pebbles in there but so far nothing else (not even water really want to ge this right) Also if i can get the Danios and the Glass catfish would i be able to fit anything else into the tank? thanks for the help
  7. oops sorry. The tank is 60cm wide by 38cm deep and about 45 high i think i know its got about 90L in it and there are 4 gold fish. I havn't added anything other than Aqua pluss for the chlorine and melafix for a week becasue one of my fish was looking a bit ill before i moved them to the bigger tank. there are no live plants and two snails and lots of bubbles+i have two filters running a fluval 3 internal and the tanks built in filter ( aqua one AR620) the fluval filter has one sponge from the old tanks filter in it cut to size and the stones are moslty all from the old tank. just wondering if maybe ive missed any spike or if its still comming :-? oh and how often are you suposed to do water changes? i do a 20% water change once a week. so in the new tank ive only done one water change so far. thanks guys
  8. ok thanks guys sounds like we were worried about nothing. I did try to tell my sister adding all thoes fish at once wasn't a good idea but her partner was just to excited and they all went in...i hope i dont have to say i told you so... :-?
  9. When should i start to see a spike? ive been testing the water every second day for two weeks and nothing yet I did a search and googled but couldn't find anything sorry (maybe i just dont look very well  ) thanks for the help

  12. I tested the water yesterday at about 5pm and it was around a 7.3 and then today at the same time and its gone down to a 6 This tank belongs to my sister and its a new one there are 5 large gold fish in and about 10 small ones. its been running from monday 220L. there are some plants in there and a bit of wood that we have taken out because it lowers ph but would it affect the ph that much that quickly? also gold fish like a ph around 7-7.5 right? Thanks this one has me confused :-?
  13. getting a tank off a work buddy that is 120L (yeah its the second one it two weeks ) it has all filters/heaters and one fish ( sorry dont know what it is just yet but its a big thing that sucks up algue, thats what i was told :-? ) i was just wanting to get some ideas for fish that are good for beginners as far as tropical fish go as ive never tried to keep them before. any tips would be great too thanks guys.
  14. I put a second filter in so that i could turn the noisy one off. Do you think i should just not use the noisy one at all? theres plenty of flow in there at night the Fluval gives the fish a thrill when they swim past it they must like it becasue they always go back for more. I did try making the water higher in the tank to stop the noise but it still to noisy and i do leave the bubbles going all night i can sleep with them on for some reason. Oh and i forgot to mention there are no plants in the thank at the moment. need to find some that goldfish wont kill and im not having alot of luck yet
  15. I really tried lol and i got a good pic now i just cant load it sorry might try again tommorow.
  16. :-? take a photo of a fish lol...Ill try...you dont know my fish he's crazy! And as to the filters one is a Fluval 3 internal filter and the other one is the tanks built in filter its on one of thoes aqua one tanks with the filter and the lights in the hood and its that one i have been turning off at night and leaving the Fluval one going. Thanks for the help im going to try take a photo now lol... Leah
  17. Hi everyone First question...what do that snails eat? Algue? if there is none in the tank can you give them anything else to eat. my two have lasted a while and i dont really want them to starve lol. Also after being moved one of my goldfish has a split in his tail it dosn't seem to be getting worse i was just wondering if it will heal? or is he stuck looking scruffy? :-? and my filter question is how many times should the tanks volume be filtered in a hour? and is it possible to over filter? and one more please lol...is it ok to turn a filter off at night ,keeping in mind the tank has two filters one is just to noisy at night. Thanks. Leah
  18. Hi everyone :bounce: I got my new fish tank set up today and the fish are looking happy What I would like to know first is if the filter is big enough for my set up. I have the Aqua one AR620 tank -90l of water and there are 4 goldfish in there, two fantails and two black moors. I have at the moment the old filter from there last home running alongside the tanks filter until new tanks filter has cycled ( hoping this will help?) not sure if the tanks filter is going to be ok though as I herd goldfish are messy fish that poo allot  . I have a fluval 3 internal filter that I could set up at a later date if you guys think I that would help? Also are there any plants that goldfish won’t destroy? And I’m sure there is another question that I’ve forgotten :-? Oh well that’ll do for now I suppose lol Thanks very much for the help
  19. Ok thanks for that ill have to buy some lol. A house full of five people and no one has any lol
  20. I bought a used Fish tank of trade me a AR-620 aqua one. the problem is it looks like the last owner left water in it and there is a water line about half way up the tank and i simply cant get it off with water at all. anyone have any ideas on what it could be and how i could clean it off? Thanks very much guys
  21. Hi everyone not sure if you remember me :-? Anyway I was all keen to set up a tropical tank and then got sidetracked by life which happens oh well things worked out. :-? I’ve ended up just getting two goldfish (Yuyu and Yortz) which seem to be happy little guys and I’ve grown fond if them, they have real spunk as my mother said. My question is about filters. I’ve used the hang of the back kind of filter in the past (it worked really well but was too noisy) and now I’m using a submersible filter but it just doesn’t seem to work. When I open it to clean it it’s not really that dirty and I’m wondering if it’s even doing its job. My tank is 100L and I’m using a Fluval 3 plus filter that I clean out every two weeks. The tank gets a 20% water change ever week and once a month I take a bit more water out. There is also a air stone and about 6 plants in the tank. Can anyone suggest a better filter keeping in mind that it needs to be very quiet (tank is in the bedroom) or even tell me I’m mad and the filter is working I don’t mind. Just want to make sure. Thanks everyone

  24. Getting ahead of myself I havn't even got water in my tank yet....but...is a 38cmx38cmx75 cm tank going to be big enough for a Red Tailed Shark? I've read that they get quiet bigish (for me anyway). Also can they be put into a tank with tetrs? thanks guys Leah
