  1. Do we get altifrons here?
  2. Could argue the same with dogs, allowing them to roam would probably help with the rat and feral cat population (not to mention naughty wandering children  ), yet they still must be locked up. No they shouldn't be locked up in a cage all day, but perhaps if their owners had to cat-proof their properties they would have a bit more sympathy for those of us who have to try to keep wandering cats out. In Canada cats must be registered and kept inside at night, and if they're caught outside their owners are fined, and if they're unregistered then they are put down. Anyway, I didn't mean to turn this into an anti-cat argument, so I'll shut up...
  3. It is for me, we have thousands of them at work, I've actually found eggs before and watched them hatch. They're pretty cool. I used to keep a few in a tank years ago, before I knew about permits etc...
  4. Taxonomists can't even decide they're called, the whole genus is a big question mark and nobody seems to agree on whats what. These are the common species of earth-eaters that could be considered "Geophagus" in the looser sense that we have here in NZ; G. brasiliensis G. surinamensis (which is one of the biggest areas of confusion, the fish we get here are part of the greater surinamensis complex) G. juripari (which is now known as Satanoperca juripari, or S. leucosticta, Here's a link) G. steindachneri (red hump geo) Gymnogeophagus balzani Acarichthys heckelii (have I missed any?) If you can't get pics of your fish, do some Googleing with those names and see if any look like the fish you have.
  5. Aww surely not not mummys little precious fluffy wuffy and mr mittens, they're so cute and friendly.... I'll say it again, cats that are allowed to roam are vermin. Dogs aren't allowed to roam, I'm not allowed to keep fresh water stingrays because of the fear that they might "escape" and somehow survive in the wild, any yet it is socially (and legally) acceptable for cats to roam where ever they want regardless of the consequences.
  6. Carters/Placemakers etc sell smaller tubes of Sellys (and other) silicone that don't require a caulking/mastic gun.
  7. It could just be them trying to establish a pecking order. I'd just keep a close eye on them, only separate them if it gets to the point where one is trying to get away but the dominant one pursues and keep attacking.
  8. I've found someone who recorded it and can burn it for me!!! Give it 24 hours and I'll be able to discuss it.
  9. Amen to that, I've been to their last two shows, and both were bind blowing!! I always find something like that much more interesting and impressive than say the gymnastics at the olympics where the athletes are so confined to strict rules and regulations. I'd love to see gymnastics in the X-Games, imagine if they just said "there's the apparatus, do what ever you want to impress us. If you don't quite get your toes straight because you're doing a triple back flip with a twist then we're not going to deduct half a point".
  10. I'm hooked eh, can anyone help an addict??
  11. Maybe throw in a game of chess then?
  12. Did anyone record it? I was out and my sister recorded channel 2 instead of 3! PM me if you've got a copy on tape or DVD I could borrow.
  13. in with the synchronised swimming and rhythmic gymnastics?
  14. Maybe we need an all-rounder competition, with running, swimming, gymnastics, high/long jump, weight lift, short put or javelin, and some shooting or archery. This would really determine who is the fastest strongest etc. And you could add in some synchronised swimming or rhythmic gymnastics, just to test the um, uh, whats the point of them again??
  15. It would be interesting to get Bolt and Phelps to do a 100m sprint and a 100m freestyle and see what the difference over the two events is. I'm guessing that Phelps would be a better runner than Bolt would be a swimmer.

    3ft african tank

I guess it depends on what you're keeping and how much you're feeding. I've got a 200L 3' grow out with 2 700lph canisters, but it has 14 clown loaches and a heap of cichlids in it, and lots of meaty food like shrimp. His filter would certainly be alright for a start, but depending on what he stocks it with it may eventually need an upgrade.
  17. you hit a nerve, its one thing that really irks me. Skiirs bagging snowboards, roadies bagging mountain bikers, downnhillers bagging xc riders etc (an all vice versa of course). Can't we just all show some love! When I started riding most of the xc guys would race the downhill too (often on the same bike), there was only one person in the whole club who had front suspension.
  18. *groan* perhaps you should take up road riding or skiing with an attitude like that. Mountain biking is mountain biking, be it free riding, cross country racing, endurance trail riding, or just mucking around on jumps and structures. There is no "real" mountain biking. FYI what is now known as mountain biking started with the likes of Joe Breeze and Gary Fisher doing downhill runs on gravel forestry roads on their "clunkers"....

    3ft african tank

Or you could just keep one variety, maybe just have a group of birchardi. 3x per hour is pitiful for a heavily stocked cichlid tank, 6-10x is ideal (depending on stocking and feeding etc). I'd suggest you buy another canister for it.
  20. That is probably because people have cross bred the different colour strains. While its not the end of the world, its not ideal either...
  21. As above, it sounds like there isnt enough water movement.
  22. Got a kona coilair I'm going to part out in favour of something a bit lighter and more pedalable. Ride at woodhill, riverhead, dome valley, parahaki (occasionally) and keep meaning to go to vegas but something always seems to come up...

    2ft suggestions

Oh, if thats the case then IMO he should get an arowana, 6 uaru and 20 clown loaches.
