  1. You must be the guy that Alan just PMed me about. I can help you out with some Gardneri Blues. I have some young fry that are old enough to sex but not old enough to breed. The males are just starting to show some colour. My adult stocks are right down at the moment but will see how things go over the next couple of weeks with egg collection, as I might be able to give you a pair of young adults. I can also help you out with a mop. If this doesn't work out, you are welcome to a trio of the fry. Are you able to wait a couple of weeks?

    Fry

Well seem the killie forum has been so quiet, I thought I'd let you know what I've been up to. I had roughly 40 Gardneri Blue fry hatch yesterday, with another 50 odd eggs due next week. I used Barries method of storing the eggs on peat, with great results. I put 3 trio's together, with 1 of the trio's producing over 90% of the eggs. Next on my list is my Striatums. I have only 2 females and 5 males. I might just try 2 pairs rather than 1 trio.

    Juwel 60 Filter

Thank you, I'll give it a go.

    Juwel 60 Filter

I have a Juwel 60 but don't like the bulit in filter system. I have had a problem with fish (Killie) jumping into one side of it. I put some glass over the top of it but 2 still managed to get through a very small gap. I'm wondering if anybody has removed the Filter (canister) from there tank? Is it just glued in? I would rather have a bit more space in the tank and might as well just run a sponge filter, as thats all that this filter is really.
  5. Yep, thanks also to TM, who also divided one of my tanks up for me. Also great to deal with. How are you Tim? Well I've still got 1 of your Nig males swimming around with 5 females. The first bag of peat is due to be wet 13th August. I've had a container of peat in with them continuosly, leaving it in there for 4 weeks. Fingers crossed. What are you up to with your fish at the mo?
  6. Bubble and Squeak in Stanmore Rd build tanks. I have had them divide a tank for me and found them great to deal with.

    Jumping

How many fry do you keep in a 1 litre container and for how long? Roughly what size tank do you then use for raising them?

    Jumping

Pretty sure they can jump, but not sure at what age. I lost one this week from an ice cream container floating in a tank. Unfortunately, there are 3 adult killies in the tank, so someone had some desert. I'm going to use 3 litre plastic containers with lids in future and do very regular water changes.
  9. I'm looking at doing something very similar for my Killies. I look forward to seeing photo's of the finished product.

    Fish Cabinet

I'm wanting to set up a fish cabinet for my Killies, so looking for photo's and info. Can anyone help?
  11. Mate, the best thing I ever did was join the club. Mind you, I just started with the one tank, now I have 6 and I'm looking at building a Killie Cabinet to house more tanks. You get great deals on fish, Brine Shrimp and most important of all, knowledge. A great bunch of people, most whom I have never met, but so generous. Tony
  12. I made a moss wall using gutter guard from Bunnings.

    Australe

Just wondering if anybody has any Australe Gold or Chocolate females in Christchurch? I'm down to 1 choco female and no golds.
  14. I had a problem for a while, but fixed it with Flourish Excell (double dose), 30% weekly water changes and got a couple of SAE. Tank and plants cleared up within 3weeks. Now I just do a 25% weekly water change, Fourish Excell (single dose) and the SAE's just do there thing.
  15. Been a bit slack on writing, but got my bloodworms on Saturday. Thanks heaps! My Killes love them.
  16. I have had a pair of Gardneri Blues together for a fornight and they have produced over 70 eggs. The first of the fry are due to hatch in the next day or so.
  17. Well I'm definitely no expert but had a fair bit of luck spawning Australe Chocolates and Gardneri Blue. My problem has been killing the fry with love (over feeding). I run my tanks at 22deg and have no problem getting 7+ eggs a day, over a couple of weeks. I do however keep the males and females separate until I want them to spawn.

    I'm a mum!!!!

The first 2 photo's are great! How about a shot of the whole tank? Looks like an interesting piece of wood.

    Where to start

Check out trader MTBTIM on trademe. I'm due to get some Killies arrive this week from him. Only read and heard good things about him.
  20. I'm new to this site and new to killies. I'm looking for someone local (or not) who can help me get started with some mop spawners.
