  1. No mouth, no eyes, nor yet a nose, two arms, two feet, and as it goes, the feet don't touch the ground, but all the way the head runs round. What is it?

    updates :)

Could I put one in a 5' x 2' x 2' long term? If not how long for?
  3. I can be quick and then I'm deadly, I am a rock, shell and bone medley. If I was made into a man, I'd make people dream, I gather in my millions by ocean, sea and stream.
  4. Is there direct sunlight on the tank? I have found that can cause them to spaz for no good reason, and making sure the sun couldn't get them fixed it
  5. it is illegal in NZ to sell fertilized eggs for human consumption. Any eggs from the supermarket will be infertile. If you want to hatch some chicks, buy fertile eggs from trademe. On another note, a fertilized egg will survive a couple of weeks in the fridge before beginning incubation. This is because when a hen builds a nest, she will lay one egg per day, and only start to sit on the eggs once she has a full nest of eggs. this means that even though the eggs are laid over a couple of weeks, they all start developing at the same time, and as a result they hatch at the same time.

    Fungus in gravel?

I vacuumed most of it out last night, but there is still some in there and the fish aren't too happy even after a 50% water change. I feed them a fair bit but no more than they can eat immediately, and only good quality food too (Hikari)

    Fungus in gravel?

A week ago I added two airstones and a fluval 404 to the tank. I will try to get some photos
  8. I've noticed a white fungus type growth in the gravel in my tank. it is a whole lot of white dots connected by transparent membranes. I've never seen anything like it before. I'm thinking it may be caused by the antlers I put in the tank recently, or the gravel which was sourced from the beach at Wairoa. The fish are breathing heavily at the surface and don't look happy. I've done a big water change and will remove the antlers tomorrow. How do I get rid of the fungus? (if that's what it is)
  9. Thats better, now you have one focal point, but it is still too central
  10. I would be inclined to rotate both rocks 180 degrees, this would result in a narrow cleft between the two rocks. Especially if you are going to grow a carpet in there, the eye will instantly be drawn to the darker pathway between the rocks. Make sure the path's position is 1/2.618 of the length of the tank (golden rule) and that the path moves away from the centre of the tank as it gets further away (this will create the illusion of greater depth). Best of luck with this tank, it looks like it has potential to become something impressive
  11. Are the cross's longfinned, short finned or in between? If they are in between, I would be inclined to breed the offspring back to each other, in the hope of getting some that are gold with the full length fins. Choose the longest finned individuals each time. If they have full length fins, then the next step is cross with a gold. If they are all short, then cross them with each other, and a few will come out gold and longfin.
