I'm a bit late but hi and welcome MGilcrist. I'm another new user and this is an awesome place to visit and ask questions. It really could have helped my fishes if I had discovered it 3 yrs ago when I got my first tank

can any one help - how do you tell what sex choc gouramis are ? Our LFS had 4 - I bought 2 of them thinking they would be fine in the tank together ! :lol: BUT was I ever wrong - the next day one was faded and hiding at the bottom - fished him out and put into another tank and later that day back to good colour and behaviour. Have tried to put them back tog but a no go. 5 months later - I now have one CG in one of my guppy tanks - none of the fry survive but the CG is very contented!

hi Joze - I had some problems with bent spines when my guppies started breeding - tested my water hardness (GH) and found that it was v. soft - am on tank supply. Since I started adding small amounts of African Cichlid mix and keeping a v.close eye on my ph hasn't happened again -regards Sue

just how long do guppies live ? Zorro and Pinks 2 (the geriatrics) are about 2 1/2 yrs old now and in fine health tho a little fat - must be all that fry food!!!

what do you do with your retired geriatric guppies ? At present mine go into a 10 g growing on tank - the odd baby gets born (and eaten). It's going to get o/crowded in there eventually !! :-?

Thank you for your very warm welcome to the fishroom. As well as the guppies I have albino aenus (?) cories in each tank (Blossum and Billy in one of the 5's) all who regularly lay eggs over the glass to the guppies delight. Some pigmy cories in one tank- a couple of their babies have survived the guppies, kuhlis, 2 chocolate gouramis (who hate each other and have to live in seperate tanks) and 2 young keyhole cichlids.

Hi - recently got a computer and am discovering the internet - amazing! ! A couple of years ago I bought a 5 gall tank as I was fascinated by guppies......I now have 4 tanks and a lot more guppies plus a few others! .....although I have stopped giving the guppies names now they're still no 1 in my tanks. Was delighted when I found this website at the bottom of a fishgeek web page, we don't have any fish clubs up here - a couple of pet and aquarium shops only
