  1. Any body know anythingf about them, I was just given one, and know nothing, not even its name. It looks like a climbing rainforest plant, but who knows?? Any help appreciated.
  2. I have donated since I was an apprentice, with a few years off in a job where I could not get to do so. Its great, especially now, choccie biccies and all  But seriously, it is one way of saving lives that does not require great acts of heroism...
  3. I googled it a while ago, and they said somethingabout yeast, and constant cropping, so they keep breeding.
  4. Does any body have any experience with red chip as a substrate for a planted tank. I believe it may be a chert, just what that means chemically I don't know.

    no more nails?

In brief; Does no more nails the glue, do anything to water or fish. I have a number of aq. rocks glued together from another project, and wish to return them to the tank, will the glue, now years old cause any problems? Any help appreciated.
  8. thanks all, especially Ira, I had wondered about banjo's and whiptails, what do you think?? 8)
  9. I have a few plecos, and cats, and am wanting to set up a mainly them type of tank. I want to have lots of driftwood, and few plants, These are the fish I have at the moment, in a 4ft'r what else could I add. "normal plecostomous" Chocolate talking cats x2 gold nugget plecostomous x4 glass catfish x1 As well we have a gold gourami, and a few assorted tetras, and harlequin barbs. Any thoughts are well appreciated.
  10. true, also any floating plants etc, I guess?
  11. You're right, nothing hidden, but at least retained in a small area. In idea No 2 the power head would have its inlet right at the bottom i guess, and the water level would have to be high enough that it would be capable of refilling faster than the head couuld empty it?
  12. thank you, for your quick response, Yes, I am not sure what to make of it now, whetherb I should remove it or not, or just use it as a hidden inlet or return>?
  13. So in that case, the water must be pumped to the sump as there is no sign of a hole for drainage? If it were siphoned, then the siphon would stop when it drained the first time?? Sorry about the dumb questions, but although I have previously had fish, these new sump things etc. are new to me.
  14. I have just bought a pair of tanks and am a little confused. The seller also had no idea, so I shall ask you guys; In the back corner of the tank is a glassed in square. this extends from bottom,(and is sealed there) to about water level. How is it used? I had assumed that they were not sealed at the bottom, so with a air stone or whatever that would sort of function as an undergravel filter, or at least as a water agitation device. If used as a pump inlet/outlet, then it would not give any much water flow/current. If as inlet then it would give goodish flow as a surface skimmer, which as far as I know is pretty useless in an aquarium? Any help, clarification will be greatyly appreciated.
  15. How do yuou tell the south african mantis from the locals, I havent been able to hear their accent yet???
  16. just a little gentle sarcasm, indicating I myself have disposed of the little critters , once by axe- clean beheading
  17. as far as I know it would in fact be illegal to feed the wetas to any fish. To my knowledge they are pretected and killing one may open you up to a $200 fine So, If I am correct, it would be better to let the little beasties go, By the way, any one know where I can find water hyacinth?? :bounce:
