    Help

I should have continued my surfing before writing. It seems that this occurs because of a change in conditions (setting up a new tank without seeding it with water from the existing tank) and the leaves die off. I read that the root structure remains intact and they will send out new leaves eventually, roughly 2 weeks it seems like.

    Help

don't worry, I little more surfing and it seems to me that it is cryptocorne disease. Anyone know what to do about this

    Help

I have just moved home, and replanted my tank. I now have an undergravel heater and have used duplarit as the substrate. I fertilise with duplaplant 24. I have adequate lighting. But my crypt is all dying. The only way I can describe is it looks like it is water logged. Any ideas would be appreciated as shortly I think my crypt will be no longer
  4. matt, you have missed the green bay meeting for this month. As a fellow westie if you are keen to go next month give us a yell. It's a rather difficult place to find if you don't know where it is.
  5. yes that's a good ratio, but if you get them from a tank that is mixed gender you will be able to avoid buying a male if the females are big enough, i.e. they may already be fertilised, and that will save you an extra five bucks, as you don't have to buy a male

do you have any babies at the moment, and are you willing to sell if you do have them.

    move

yes i have got my filters running, so there's no concern with that, I was just wondering if there was a best practice with setting up a tank in regards to the bacteria. I guess what i'm hearing is to continue to use the old water/filter etc, so that's what I will do.

    move

I have just moved house, and have my fish in temporary quarters, has anyone got any advice re: setting up the new tank. Do I continue to use the old water, or shall I cycle a new tank. any ideas appreciated.
  9. I know that they love to leave horse-shoe markings on amazon swords, I expect that this is due to the broad leaf. I don't know how picky they are.

    Volcanic Rock

remembering back to school days volcanic material is inert. don't quote me, but I would be keen to put it in a tank. however make sure the rock isn't to sharp, as this could have implications later on. i.e. loss of scales etc

    worms

not entirely sure whether I had some live blood worms for a time. They looked like them so I will assume they were. Also my fish loved them. They came into contact with me when I had my daphnia outside, and along with mosquito larvae there were these red worms. My only advice, leave a container outside until you see some.
  12. I don't want to sound supportive, but these flowerhorns don't look too bad. however they are only 2-3 inches, so I presume they are not fully grown.
  13. That's right for a mere $750 a pair you can buy them too. Apparently only one pair in the north island, and they are currently residing at Jansens north shore. I seem to recall there was much comment about these fish in earlier posts, so if people want to see them in real life here's your chance.

    worms

No these were worms, and not larvae. blood worms get to about one inch in length, these were clearly larger than that, and they moved in a peristaltic action. blood worms flick themselves around the place, much like mosquito larvae.

    worms

I seem to have a good collection of different worms. I just purchased a crypt plant and noticed that there were red worms in with the plant. They are a blood red colour, and were roughly 2-3 inches long. Not sure what they are or whether they are dangerous to my fish. I have isolated the plant after picking out as many worms as I could. So hopefully I won't contaminate my tank. Any ideas on the worms would be appreciated. Matt
  16. You need to update your message that occurs with your post (sorry can't remember what you call it). It seems you have more than nine guppys. Congratulations and continue to enjoy breeding your fish.
  17. I think I have already used one of her tanks through the LFS, I quite liked the tinted glass at the bottom, as you say great for BB tanks. I must pay her a visit and check out what she has got. I appreciate you letting me know. Matt

    Introduction

welcome Tony, I'm sure we all agree that we have learnt lots from others experiences, so it's good to hear you find some of the posts interesting. see you round Matt
  19. peety who is the tank maker. I want a four or five foot tank but would like to get it as cheap as poss. I also have some specifics for it, which I would prefer to talk to the tank maker rather than go through the LFS

    CO2 valve

I was in Jansens yesterday. They apparently will not fill CO2 gas bottles anymore. BOC is the only option

    Impeller Prob

sorry forgot to say I am 99.99% sure that I am right in thinking that what has happened to your impeller also occured to mine. Hence why i am so convinced that is the problem Let me know how you get on.

    Impeller Prob

Aqua I went to Jansens after work. Your impeller I believe is the new one (the old impellers had a white bit that breaks off, yours is a black bit) the retail is 19.95. the newer impeller blade is about the size of a fifty cent coin, the older roughly the size of a twenty cent coin. Not as pricey as some impellers, but still it isn't to nice to have to pay that much. Try Hollywood for price, his mark-up is considerably less, and I belive they may offer a discount if you belong to a fnzas club. (don't quote me on that). I plan to join a club next week, so I may be able to tell you for sure afterr that. Otherwise someone in the know could answer. Matt

    Impeller Prob

If it is what it sounds like the impeller will not work, hence why you won't get any water flow. When I get home I will check on my fluval to see whether we are talking about the same thing. matt

    Impeller Prob

I got my impeller from the bird barn out west. I know the guys, and I also had given them a jaguar cichlid recently so they just gave it to me. If I get the chance today I may go into Jansens. Otherwise just ring around. In the meantime as I said you could try gluing it together and see how you go. Also do you have an upgraded fluval. The fluvals that come with the ribbed hosing have a larger impeller. Make sure you specify which impeller you want as they are not interchangeable. There should be a part number in your manual that should get you the right part. I'm not sure if there are any differences in price between the two. Matt

    Impeller Prob

my 404 did the same thing. It was glued up and lasted for a short period of time after that, you could try that but I advise just buying another impeller. Also check that the part the impeller slips onto isn't damaged, no one was home to know that the impeller had broken and the plastic melted. when I put a new impeller in, because of the change of shape in the plastic, the new impeller broke. hope that helps matt
