  1. small white 'slugs' that slide over the glass driftwood and probably everywhere...up to 3 mm long...battery & copper leads have done nothing to stop them...they appeared at the same time as the 'hydra' discused in previous post when I bought some celestrials...have never had them before..would like to get rid of without resetting the tank as it looks good but will if that is the only option ? any help would be appriciated....darrell

  7. Notes: New fish don't come much newer than this: the species was only discovered a few weeks ago (August 2006) and was first introduced by Kamphol Udomritthiruj of Thailand-based exporter AquariCORP. The first specimens arrived in the UK during September. Practical Fishkeeping was the world's first magazine to break news of the species.
  8. to quote...from an article by M Pham, Aquarticles...This is a newly discovered fish from Myanmar in August 2006.....
  9. I am now the proud owner of some Galixy Danios or a fish by any other name…I read that these fish were RECENTLY IN SEPTEMBER 2006 FOUND !! ..what an arrogant statement !! The locals have known about them for thousand of years and it would not surprise me to find that they have a very special delicate little number for special occasions…GALAXY FRITTERS.. much as we do here in NZ have whitebait fritters !
  10. I use fabric held in place with 'velcro' this allows me to change if I want but more important on large tanks if you get a 'marbled ' type fabric it gives greater depth. I use a brown marbled for my amazon tank and if the 'join ' between the bottom gravel & background is hidden with planting or driftwood you get great feeling of depth. I also use sand with high pumice content.
  11. if anyone is interested to see these pl. pm me..I will try & photo later. thanks
  12. Yes you read it correct…I set up a small tank for my grandkids that included..guppies..danios..swordtails & two albono corys..all with plants ..and ornaments ( blue shark..no fishing ) well all went well except the guppies died so after getting more and them also gong to fish heaven I did daily water changes but the corys started to go blue on the head and then it spread, all obviously internal…I now have them isolated trying to work out how to get the poor corys back to normal..my conclucion as to why is the blue color on the shark ornament matched the blue on the fish and it rubbed off easily.. they had been licking or taking it in from the bottom of the tank ??? ANY COMMENTS WOULD BE APPRICIATED ESPECIALY ON HOW TO ‘ DETOX ‘ THE POOR THINGS.
  13. BLUE ALBINO CORYS…WARNING ABOUT ORNAMENTS Yes you read it correct…I set up a small tank for my grandkids that included..guppies..danios..swordtails & two albono corys..all with plants ..and ornaments ( blue shark..no fishing ) well all went well except the guppies died so after getting more and them also gong to fish heaven I did daily water changes but the corys started to go blue on the head and then it spread, all obviously internal…I now have them isolated trying to work out how to get the poor corys back to normal..my conclucion as to why is the blue color on the shark ornament matched the blue on the fish and it rubbed off easily.. they had been licking or taking it in from the bottom of the tank ??? 14. glad to be of help..I also found I could place 3 female in the trap at one time which helped calm them down and get on with the job ..LOL
  15. I have invested in the usual plastic breeding traps, incl the ones that have a dividor and small filter...but found my swordtails freaked out in the confined space..so I looked around & found for $3 a clothes peg basket complete with hook ...next time the female was due ( every 30 days ) I droped her into this basket that was hanging from the hook on the side of a small tank..and yes worked perfect...lots of holes for fry to excape through..plenty of frash water passing through..BOTH MOTHER & I HAPPY..yea !
  16. thanks for your answer but what is ...metro or prazi ?
  17. all the best for 2008...I by mistake placed some 30 cardinals in with my angels but now want to move them to my discus tank...these are expensive fish at $200 each x 8...how do I ensure the angel deisease that affects discus is not transmitted..or do I just sell them & get new ones...I do have other danios that I would like to put with the discus ?? thanks darrell
  18. I have koi swordtail's breeding well but felt there was some black missing in the mix, so I paired up a koi female with a begum black make who's offspring at early stage are showing black splodges..just what I was looking for..red..orange..black & white....so how does one create a "new " strain ?? so far I was told breed a daughter with father but then what ?
  19. Thanks for that, by the time one takes the cost of acid and the hazards into account there is little point..again thanks..darrell
  20. Has anyone ever used scoria as a bio filter medium ?? I feel it should work as it has zillions of voids and is cheap as . darrell
