  1. Thanks Alan I appreciate your advice about building more tanks, however I have neither the room nor the funds to do that sort of thing. All the tanks are in my bedroom and I really don't have the room for a proper breeding setup like what you probably have
  2. By the looks of it that is a definite female :happy1:
  3. Thanks so much for all that info guys Hovmoller that breeding trap looks amazing!
  4. Hey guys, I really want to get some live food cultures set up for my Green Neons because I would love to breed them successfully. I would like to see photos of people's live food set ups and hear about your experiences with different types of live foods and how you culture them. I am looking at getting microworms and whiteworms, and I have a blackworm culture running which is extremely prolific. But I need some smaller stuff too for when the fry have used their yolk sac and are just starting to eat. I want to try and keep it as simple and as cheap as possible too because I have limited funds at the moment. Thanks, Joe
  5. Hey guys, Does anyone know where I can get some mesh from to make a breeding trap for my Green Neons? Also what sort of mesh should I use - plastic, galvanized, stainless steel, aluminum etc? I saw this link posted on here somewhere once - http://www.gordonharris.co.nz/amaco-c-56_58.html Does any of that stuff look good? Thanks, Joe
  6. Get some Myriophyllum propinquum or robustum
  7. Sorry guys but this project is going to be terminated because I need to get on to breeding the Green Neons because they need to be bred when they're quite young. I can always come back to the trifasciata, and if I sell the agassizii then I'll have room in the main tank to breed the tri's.

Awesome thanks Alan I only have a large 140L tank for breeding, no small tank sorry. I was going to cover the glass panels with black sheets of something water proof, and I was going to get a lid cut that has a large 35x20cm bit cut out of the middle (the lid would be covered too except for the cut-out bit) and I'd grow a whole lot of Indian fern in the cut-out part (so that way the tank is covered from the light and I can still have the Indian fern which will help to suck nitrates/nitrites/ammonia out of the water and provide the fry with somewhere to hide). I'll try to get an inline heater and some coarse sponge to put on the outlet of the filter to help disperse the flow so it isn't too strong. I'm a huge fan of running canisters on breeding tanks. And yes I'll look at getting some fine mesh to make some breeding traps

Okay sure. I will have to terminate the trifasciata breeding project however But at least they're being bred by other people. I don't know of anyone else who is breeding these so I had better get on to it. Are there any other tips you could give me please?

Haha yeah I suppose so. I'd love a marine tank but the only thing stopping me is the cost of the equipment. I am not a fan of getting cheap tacky stuff or taking shortcuts. I'd want everything to be perfect. But to cut down on the cost I'd only get corals and inverts and not bother with fish, or possibly get one or two small cheap ones. The price of marine fish is crazy, and because you can't breed a lot of them then you can't really get your money back. At least with corals they will always keep growing if you have good conditions and you can sell or trade them for more species.
  11. Nooooo! :slfg:

It's actually not too bad considering that they almost never get imported and I could make a fortune out of them if I breed them... I've already had people saying "Put my name down for some if you breed them"

  Would be very expensive food for your fish... Those 10 tetras cost $75.00

Full-sized image - http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/4796/210612079.jpg There are 10 Green Neons. I wanted 30 but sadly John didn't have that amount of fish. But I'm going to breed them though so hopefully I'll end up with a few hundred Also something super cool that I noticed with these fish is that the stripe can even be bronze when the light hits it in a certain way.

Just got my Green Neons and OH MY GOSH they are AMAZING!!!!!!!!! !drool: !drool: !drool: !drool: !drool: :happy2: :happy1: They're about the size of a Celestial Pearl Danio or an Ember Tetra and are quite slender and have just a smidge of red on the lower caudal peduncle. The neon stripe is the most magnificent shade of green-blue. They are such a gorgeous little fish. IMO they're WAY nicer than Cardinals and normal Neons. Would be excellent for a nano aquarium. The Reed Tetras are amazing too! Just a tiny bit bigger than the Green Neons and they are silver.
  16. I read somewhere that Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae does well in alkaline water.

    I only drink water
  18. Yes definitely! But I would have been happier if I had raised a few more though.
  19. There's only about 10 now Next time I will make sure that I have some live food ready for them.
