  1. On a similar note, I'd like to thank John at Organism in Christchurch for allowing me to rip the electonic ballast and bulbs out of his stock on credit after a small mishap at the weekend. Thanks John
  2. Stop the CO2 - excess levels cause exactly the problem you have.
  3. Yes, heat is probably best, just don't burn yourself.
  4. So... would a Red Sea Max be a good environment for an Anemone? There are no exposed pump instakes to shred them, but what else would they need to do well? How hard / easy are they to keep by comparison to the other corals I've got i my tank? So far the biggest problem I have had is corals getting too big and having to sell them back to the shop. Any ideas on how to retard their growth a bit without making them look aweful?
  5. I'll see what I can do. Unfortunately my camera is a bit useless as it has no macro function, so I can't get decent shots of a lot of interesting stuff like the brittle stars, mussels, etc.
  6. It began to die off after about a week, but I just picked most of it off with my fingers to speed the process along a bit - and I didn't want dying algae to re-release phosphates back into the water. Snails took care of the rest, although there is still quite a bit on the back of the tank. I'm not too worried by it - it gives all the critters something to graze on.
  7. Oh well. Apple juice rots your teeth just as quickly
  8. Yea YOU! We'll meet at the usual place, I guess. Don't bring any Pepsi.
  9. That's not necessarily true. My Royal Whiptails regularly lay in my community tank. I just wait until they hatch and them use a small plastic container to catch the fry and put them into a mesh breeding cage suspended at the top of the tank. It best to do it first thing in the morning when the lights go on - they will be all over the glass. Feed them lots of Spirulina tablets.
  10. I suspect they don't like AquaKnead-it. I guess I could go catch you some more this weekend.

    RC down

I guess the end result is the same in any event
  12. I think the discus would love them - but they'd be gone in 20seconds! I syphoned mine out of someone else's tank - they seem to breed pretty easily.

More likely an ISP connection problem.
  14. I just colour mine in with felt pen
  15. They should be clearer on sites that host their own pics because available band width and its evil twin compression aren't an issue. Still comes across as a great tank.
  16. Tell me more... should I be looking out for anything? It is staggering how big it gets - its skeleton is only about 7cm long.
  17. Seems to be - its grown another set of those little ridges on its shell, so I guess its OK. I keep the clear shield over the lights clean - it seems to make quite a bit of difference.
  18. Second hand tanks are not worth much by comparison to new stuff - obviously they are used, they don't have a warranty, and you don't know its history. If it really is a metre tall, you might have difficulty getting enough light penetration to grow certain things in there, and pumps don't last forever. I would expect to pay around 25-30% of the new price, assuming everything is in good working order. If it cost $2000 new, that's about $500-600 max.
  19. A few more pics added on the first page...
  20. That's not it... that's one of the new batch of little ones... The big one is swimming around somewhere else...
  21. There is no practical treatment for this kind of malady - probably best to remove it from your main population and send it to the big fishbowl in the sky.

    HaNs' build

I paid $1750 with a stand and starter kit including sand, test kits, salt, etc. - its a bit of money to drop in one lump, but you get everything you need and the components seem quite well matched. I think you can buy them without the stand too, which might save you a few bucks.
  23. Errr... I'm a marine newby - what do you mean by 'dose' I tip a little bit (about a teaspoon) of Seachem Reef Plus into the brine shrimp before I feed the Sun Corals (every second day), but other that I don't add any supplement - I just do 15% week water changes.
