On my tank of roughly that size im running 2x 30W 6500K bulbs which do well enough - im quite heavily planted though. In terms of wattage and how many bulbs needed it really depends what your trying to do with it e.g. light/heavily planted tank or bare etc, doubles are more expensive but more worth it if your looking to add more light, for that size theyre usually 90-110 for a double hood. Personally id go for the highest wattage double i could find on there, T5's aren't up on trademe that often and cost more, alternatively you could look into building your own if you wanted something more specific. Also ive found that going to a lighting wholesaler or hardware store saves quite a bit on bulbs compared to a pet store in my experience and you can get more specifics for wattage, kelvin etc. Hope that helps

Money $$ to spend on fish

I'd go with some fighters too (esp crown tails - see below pic for idea ) nice colours and look cool when they flare up also some nice pure colours like red etc. Blue rams are cool aswell really attractive but can fin nip on long finned fish and if pair and breed can be territorial

I find loaches do like to be in groups and are more playful that way, however they sometimes play with other fish of their size more fun to have more as well

Ack real sorry to hear that, However while it sucks alot it gives u more room in tanks for new varieties of fish

Im using a 1.5L coke bottle, the recipe i use (along the lines of http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_co2.php ) is 1-2 cups of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of yeast and some warm water up to the top of the coke label so 2/3rds full and shake then leave. Changing the ingredient ratios affects the co2 output and duration so more sugar/yeast can speed up output but shorten time etc Also wasn't working properly without the check valve on air tubing had water pushing back down like a siphon, once i put that on works fine.

The fish need you there to take care of them and give them fish love otherwise the fish god smites the tanks because of your absence :lol:

What were the ingredients for it? I was having some issues setting my DIY co2 up but got it working after playing with ratios of ingredients so now its chugging along nicely
