Was looking into a DIY moonlight system, but was wondering if people have played with this before? I was reading the following article and that seemed quite good however its american so theres some difference in AC vs DC etc http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_moonlight.php Also was wondering about if an adapter or whatever will down the voltage so it would be able to run the lights e.g. a capacitor, I've got a limited knowledge of electricity so any help would be appreciated :bounce:

none of the new ones no, some of the fry have yes, it just seems that after i added in the new guppies the other ones decided to start dying, ive got some fry growing up well in another tank so it wont be the end of them but just wondering as to why :-? however it might be an xfile mystery

So ive got a small guppy tank which ive been running since the beginning of march fine started out with 1 male and 5 females which had a bunch of babies as they do, and all was going well (cept the male died duno why couldnt see any issues), had a large female with white spot just when she was super fat :lol: so cranked temp to 29 and salts etc which solved it, but yea so i bought some new guppies this weekend and theyve been fine in the tank cept that all of the other guppies seem to be dying with no obvious reasons. They just seem to start floating or not moving really in all tipsy turvey and the die, its an undergravel system with pebbles so that excrement etc can easily pass down, its also quite well planted taking up about half of it and java moss covering the bottom, tested the water and its all within normal parameters nothing dangerous etc. Any thoughts would be appreciated, Thanks.

Ive got 10+ loaches and used salt never had any issues with it, did monitor it and the first dosage of flourish excel to see if any ill-effects etc but theyre fine with it

I was just reading up a bit on tank set ups and ID'ing the sex etc, is it correct that the males are smaller and more colourful? and for set ups in regards to plants? :-? Just wondering what kind of set ups people have used and if they used plants, and their thoughts on if it affects breeding etc (Any photos or links to set ups would be much appreciated )

+1 Pauls got a really nice selection of fish and is able to breed anything very interesting to see his setup, BlueandKim is almost always selling plants on trademe, ive bought a few from him and was happy with purchase etc hes very knowledgeable in them aswell as selling some fish.

The Pet house is paraparaumu is the only marine retailer at the moment as far as i know; has marine gear e.g. live rock some fish and corals etc aswell as equipment. Animates Kaiwharawhara and Lower hutt have basically the same selection, the hutt one probably has more fish in my opinion, plants are mostly the same some are hydroponically grown aswell which can cause issues with changing to being submerged. Hutt pet centre is my favourite theyre changing their set ups soon having a bunch of new and larger tanks installed aswell as getting some marine set ups, they also have some tropical and freshwater plants but i have never really looked into buying any from there, nice selection of fish etc aswell; Also you get a 10% discount if your with a fnzas club etc. AnimalZ is Petone is getting into fish, last time i checked (start of april) they were just waiting on the builders to finish in a new building across the road from their current location which was guna have a bunch of newly built tanks in, lots of different kinds including marine which will be good for everyone Theres a few other stores around the place not so much on porirua side, theres Wainui Pet & Farm Supplies and one in Upper hutt if i recall correctly which i havnt visited yet (they should be in yellow pages), thats about what i know hope it helps :bounce:

Question, with Cory whiskers being sensitive to sharp gravels etc would they be fine with Dalton's propagating sand, just checking it out in a tank looks a bit rough with some small glass bits aswell? Thnx for helps

heh i was moving some loaches to a different tank and had to take out my main log to get at them easier, after having the log sitting on the ground for 5 minutes and removing all wood and loaches i discovered i was 2 clown loaches short, i checked the log and couldnt see anything so whacked it against the ground a few times at each end nothing came out except some snails and then i looked inside and saw one loach just lying there, i touched it and it was still alive so quickly put it into the new tank, i still couldnt see the remaining one so put the log back into the tank and left it till morning and there he was i was quite impressed by them and their survivability. so clown loaches for the win big logs with alot of caves and hiding places for the loss
