  4. what exactly is the cause of bba? ,i have had it for a few months now. i have been dosing PMDD for 2 weeks now and my plants are starting to grow again. this doesnt seem to have effected the bba at all. we live on a farm so we are on tank water , if it falls out of the sky it goes in to my tanks , im going to start with flourish excell to get rid of it , but want to know if it will come back again.
  5. i have just spawned some zebra danios , my tank is about 15 L .i then put one of those net breeders in the tank and filled it with spawning mops , i dropped the water level so that the the fish had about 1cm of water to swim in(above the level of the mops) . i pulled the adults out after 2 days and had a heap of eggs , and now i have about 50 fry swimming about. im just feeding them on powdered fry food til they are big enough for microworms

    just got

i would also be keen to see how everyones killi set ups look like as well
  9. im a bit paranoid about rocks like that , if it falls off that driftwood it will make a window in your tank
  10. for your beloved pet fish http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 052567.htm
  11. about 2 years ago we stayed at a holiday park near reperoa(rotorua/taupo rd) and they had a natural hot stream down the back that fed some outdoor spas and in this steam was 100s of guppies. not wild looking males but full colored , orange etc
  12. this may help (or not ) http://fish.mongabay.com/siluridae.htm
  13. last week , when we had the tornados we lost power for 14 hours , didnt effect my big tank 250L but i lost 4 breeding rummy nose tetras in my small breeding tanks which has only got 12L when i went out in the morning the temp was 6 degrees in the tank i tried the insurance trick but ami dont cover livestock
  14. didnt buy them just saw them at my lfs , they had just come in the day before. they were at mokoia pet shop just outside of Hawera , i think that they were $10.90 each , 2m 2f
  15. sorry to hijack , but are they related ? , live /breed the same as killies ? was in lfs on saturday and saw some "golden panchax" i thought they were killis , these were fairly young and didnt have much color
  16. i would put her in a net and put a drop of methylene blue on the injurys to keep fungus away then put her back in or you could give her a bath in an ice cream container for 5 minutes with a couple of drops of meth blue
  17. ok glad i didnt get it then , would it be ok for my daphnia tank?
  18. ok , dont shoot me for this , just a query i was in mitre 10 the other day and saw some liquid ferts for plants would this be ok for my tank? it did have the %s of the trace elements on the bottle. could someone tell me what %s are good and what are bad hope this makes sense

how big a tank would i need to breed these? http://www.robmatherly.com/pics/funny/b ... atfish.jpg

    white spot

it was probably caused by stress as they are fairly new additions to the tank , the smaller one was a bit skinny to start with but he is doing well , hoovering up blood worms , they are both still eating ok , will they pass it on to the others?
  21. stimpy29

    white spot

i have 2 clown loaches with white spot , will this spread to the rest of the tank , containing neons, rummy noses, angels, danios, bristlenoses ,cories will using meth blue kill my plants? or am i better to give the loaches a bath in meth blue or better to treat the tank with some thing else? its a 4ft tank 250litres
  22. no we live on a farm and only have pure rain water
  23. im only changing about 10-15% each time , hopefully im diluting the nitrates and slowing the brown down! i think that the fish appeciate it as well , my rummy noses have deep red noses that would put rudolf to shame.
  24. im doing water changes 3 times a week at the moment and yup it is easy to wipe the front of the glass , but just a thought i have about an inch of daltons aquaria mix would this help excellerate the growth of the brown algae? or will the tank just balance itself out? the plants love it.
