I have found the fishmate filter with UV to be best for my small ponds. Can anyone recommend anything better. Only issue with fishmate is trying to hide it.

Thanks for that - the fish actually went from South Auckland fine to the North Shore depot and the driver over there refused to deliver them. I think probably a one time thing but annoying to say the least.

Has anyone had problems with NZ Couriers North Shore. I have been using NZC with no problems and last week the driver on the North Shore refused to pick up a box of live fish - even though it wasnt marked!! Is this a one-off or should I be looking for another courier?

I have had trouble over the last couple of years getting my older (2-3 yrs) fancy male goldfish to breed. You cant stop the young ones but the older ones are a challenge. Any suggestions?

Thanks Ron - but how do I know its gill flukes and not bacterial? Are there specific signs of bacterial infection?

At this time of the year I have problems with young goldfish. First sign is swollen gills and/or listlessness and poor swimming. If you pick them up they appear to be bleeding under their jaw. Is it bacterial and how should it be treated?

several of my goldfish have some sort of disease - they lie on their sides and are listless. They also have some reddening at the base of the tail which comes later. Water is fine - any ideas?

I agree but I tried putting 4 babies in the tank water that was same temp as spring water and they died within an hour? I also dont seem to be able to hatch brineshrimp in this tank water which is held in a plastic lined wooden tank.

I am currently renting a house in the country which is on tank (rain) water. Tastes fine etc but I have had several batches of goldfish die in this water. They are fine in spring water but the minute I put them in the tank water they die - the larger fish are OK. What might this be? thanks

when you say oxygen are you talking pure oxygen or just from air pump? Sounds like airating water is a good idea too?

thanks for that - so at what point does one need oxygen? how long will they last with just using air from air pump - these are goldfish.

I transport fish a bit and think I might need to do it more. I have followed guidlines posted on this site with great success. To date have only been using airpump to provide oxygen. At what point should I consider using pure oxygen? Where does one get an oxygen tank?

No its not blanketweed or any algae type thing. I will try and get a photo but it does grow out of the water but mostly in the water. The stuff that is out of the water looks like coarse moss - if you look at it closely it looks like tiny tiny oxygen weed.

I have found a plant in a trough - it is growing really well and looks like moss. There is moss growing above the water - does it grow underwater?
