  1. Yes its from Mr Pleco - I got 3 from him, 1 chocolate zebra, 1 king tiger and 1 tiger early last year I think and then I inherited another 2 chocolate zebras (sorry my fullstop key doesn't work) The chocolate zebras are the only thing I see in the tank as this one lives permanently under a piece of driftwood only to appear when I am in bed and the other one I havent seen for months and months but unless I rip my planted tank to pieces I won't know if he's there or not
  2. The first one is very definitely either L226 or L066 - I just don't know which one  And as for a photo of its mouth you have to be joking as this is the first time I've seen the whole of it in about 7 months
  3. Unfortunately the last pic is of only one fish There was only one that looked like that plus the black spotted one and then the others I got 5 all up Just a shame there was no one there that knew what they were supposed to be and no sign on the tank (the shop shall remain nameless due to this )
  4. I won't bother about the first one given its either the king tiger or the tiger plec Assuming that the King Tigers grow bigger than order tiger plecs it is probably the first one What did I buy the last one as - unknown lol The same with the middle pics - unknown - however one of the spotted ones is very distinctly different at this stage so I will be interested to see how they mature
  5. Well I guess time will tell as to what they are maybe
  6. I think I need to try and get a better second photo cos one of those fish doesn't look like the other one and no way resembles my tank of young bn - its nearly black and the spots are way smaller
  7. Can you give me your opinions on these plecs please (apologies for no full stops - the keys not working) is this a king tiger or a tiger plec these are two different fish - one has white at the top of the fin on its back, the other does not - suggestions as to what they are? and this one? the plecs in these last two photos are only about 2 1/2cm max atm thanks
  8. Goat Island is beautiful and well worth going to You can snorkel with the fish and if your children are little if they take some goggles they will be able to look under the water and see the fish
  9. Heres a pic of the fish which I went out and took the other day to send to Phoenix44
  10. Got another place as wel - if you are here on a Saturday you should go and visit the Otara Markets for a dosing of good polynesian culture. Its amazing, is pretty packed with stalls selling everything you can possibly think of. Its off the Southern motorway at Papatoetoe and turn left, you can't miss it.
  11. Cornwall Park is a nice place to go - theres a playground on one side of the park, nice walks through the paths, cattle, sheep and roosters to look at. The other place and one I used to love to go to is Maraetai - which is out East. Theres a lovely reserve with plenty of shady space for picnics and the beach is right there. Its not a sand beach, more stones, no life guards but no need for them. You can park right up by the waters edge or go back into the reserve. Long Bay on the North shore is another popular beach and picnic area. Theres also Western Springs, the Zoo and Motat are right there although the park and playground are also nice. Plenty of beaches everywhere, if its windy you can choose where to go out of the wind. North Head (on the north shore) have tunnels that you can go through - were used in the war. Theres some nice areas in the Waitakeres where you can picnic, with bush walks. Go check out Piha (not sure if you watch Piha Rescue on tele), be careful though as the sea can be dangerous, stay at ankles depth if you have children with you. Piha's very close to the gannets although I think October is the best time to see the birds. Theres Waiwera (north of Auckland) about 45 minutes on the toll road with the hot pools or there is Parikei (sp?) out from west auckland with hydroslides etc.
  12. Its in Royal View Road, Te Atatu South. If you go off the motorway at TeAtatu stay left on the offramp. The streets first on your right (can be hard to turn into at certain times of the day) and the house is just on your right as you turn into the street. (I don't watch the programme myself but my sister-in-law lives in TeAtatu).
  13. A while ago I had a guppy who gave birth every couple of weeks for over 2 months. Maybe this is what is happening here. The next lot of fry may not be quite ready to be born yet. However, I'm pretty certain that if you let her out into a tank sods law will take effect - she will drop any that are ready when you are not watching.
  14. Seems to be the majority opinion as to what these are. The later two I purchased were not as clearly marked as the first three. After a few days in the tank the markings seem to be more defined but as this stage unless I catch them by surprise coming into the room I still can't see them. However the spotted bn have way more clearly defined spots now than they did. I just need to locate another 3-4 of them
  15. Pleased to hear its clearing up. Keep up the treatment for a week after the last visible spots disappear. You could try reducing the amount of water being changed each day but I would keep up daily changes until the tanks been running for about a month and then slowly reduce the number of changes you do each week. pH being that low won't worry the fish, what upsets them is the pH changing all the time. Higher pH is more important if you have some cichlid types and is very important for breeding of some species.

Thanks Suphew - I will sort my lighting first and see if this is enough. My plants do grow, just not enough!
  17. Thanks a lot for your help everyone and for your generous offer Ron. I'll be in touch. Adrienne
  18. So Antwan, will these eggs hatch if they have been fertilised or does the female need to be around to tend to them?
  19. Am I the only one that read what you wrote before you changed it!
  20. The female bn is indicating a lack of oxygen in the water and the ammonia level (although low) certainly indicates a presence of it in the tank. I think you have had an ammonia spike overnight which has killed off a lot of fish in the tank. Keep up the water changes and keep an airline running until things settle. May be 2-3 weeks. I can't imagine that the new filter is totally responsible for this (is it a brand new one or second hand?) but will certainly not be helping.
  21. I think 30 is high enough - I'm always worried that when my discus tank gets to 32 they might cook and turn white
  22. The tank is 60cm deep. I was going to try and go for 4 bulbs. Costwise I am not certain, thats really what I am asking as to what is good value but lasts. By lasting I don't mean so much the bulbs but the fittings they sit in. I don't want to pay out for something that will crack or fall apart after 12 months. I've looked at the T5's in animates, they seem to cost around the $300 mark for a twin fitting but I've seen some advertised on tm that hold 4 bulbs.
