  1. its just 2 hard to have them in NZ. cant have, or cant afford to have decent aros, and other "monsters" seems either hard to find, or non existent. if i am in singapore ..... 8) 8) 8)
  2. i do hope that there will be more n more "monster" fish keepers in the forum. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  3. i agree that they are aggressive fish, but i fail to think ur tank is too small, its after all 220 litres. 1. they take years to be fully grown,2. even if they are fully grown, u are lucky to see them exceed 35cm. ur 91cm tank is sufficient. u dont need a pond to have them. just to express something irrelevant: samething can be said about asian aros, people often say one needs a 2 metre tank to have them, sometimes more. but the truth is in asia, it is a common practice, and commonly considered that a 1.2 meter tank is sufficient(through experience). and they seem to be happy, or at least no significantly less happy than if they are put in a much larger tank, so i dont know what is the theoritical basis for people to claim good size tanks like urs is "too small"(in ur case datnoids). if there is none, such claims would be arbitrary.
  4. I vote a! (justification: small fishes are boring, since they dont tend to change, its time to have a monster) and maybe some quality tigers!
  5. may b do what i do. Henward i know that u have the thought that pellet food is "better" (maybe from monster tank.com)anyways. try this since they eat shrimps chunks, i just stick/stuff a pellet or few(if they are small pellets) into the shrimp chunk. you know the tigers, they wont think, they just swallow everything at one go. works for me everytime. so he gets the shrimp n pellets. this is my technique lol, its not that troublesome 2.
  6. philosophically speaking people sometimes give out false/contradicting info does not equal this forum is valueless. inother words, people sometimes make mistakes, but that doesnt mean what they do are entirely meaningless or have no value at all. e.g. my uni lecturers sometimes make mistakes and give out contradicting theories, does that mean my university is meaningless and has no value? surely the answer is NO.
  7. Get UV light Filters. the small capacity ones cost under 100 bucks. result? green colour gone in 1-2 days. simple as that.
  8. 2 discus, 1 siamese tiger. the tank is a 215 litre.
  9. no. they are just tiny white moving dots. massive amount 2 anyone has any ideas?
  10. yeah but the wood's fine there for a long time. that means its not the wood it self's problem. i can just get rid of it, but there are must be a reason for causing this.
  11. hi. i've just discovered there are these massive amount of very tiny white spot bugs/worms on my drift wood. i can even see them moving. what are they? how can i get rid of them? they should be harmful right? plz help
  12. yep, Ian's did a pretty good job in explaining. so lets me just paraphrase aquariums need filters, if not, fishes die due to the poor water chemistry, also every one have these bio filters. it produces the so called "good bacteria" which improves the water quality. you cant just throw fishes into da tank. please do some studies on the internet regarding how to establish a tank for beginners. this may take you sometime. or just go to your local fish shop and ask what is required. you will need to buy some essential tools for fish keeping such as varies test kits, and water conditioners. plz do some studying 1st, we are all learning!
  13. msn is [email protected] , n yea, it ate some shrimp meat yesterday, however he didnt when i offered somemore today. n yea, gonna get some proper decorations ASAP, use to have heaps, decent ones 2, e.g. big divers helmet, broken barrel etc etc, but all given away, thought i will never need them :-? :-? :-?
  14. Yes, he is. was he previously like that? but i am sure he is healthy, or at least not sick. should i buy some guppies to encourage him? or just let it be?
  15. will try to do wc as you said. just a Q, wouldnt wc's stress the fishes more? but i well give it a go. thanks
  16. yea, i did some reserch of my own, dats are generally shy, i havnt had time to go to a lfs to purchase plants/proper hiding place. any common custom made hidding place which i can create? i throw in a tea cup, but he doenst seems to like it, its 2 white and shiny. any other ways to encourage him to come out?
  17. dunno about nitrate. nitrite is 0. which one is the harmful one again?
  18. Note:incase of any hardfeelings lol, i am sure the fishes i brought, i.e the discuses and the tiger were all healthy fishes. its just me and my tank.
  19. here is the story. i finally sold my aro to Jim, Hans picked it up for him yesterday, he has also brought me his tiger fish. neither of us had a net. so we used a pillow case to capture the aro. in the same afternoon, i went to Darrell's place to pick up his 3 discus. the discuses are a bit skinny other than that they were all healthy and sweet. Darrell advised me to feed them well. unfortunately, they were looking very stressed after entering their new home. infact, one of them seems close to dying. other than my old discus, none of them are eating. my old discus is also less active and stressed than before. the tiger is not doing well either. the PH seems to be fine sitting at 6.3-6.4. temperature normal, tank is of course fully cycled. oxygen is sufficient. i can understand that fishes tend to be stressful after transfers, but this is abnormal. anyone have any knowledge of whats going on here? any obvious problem to you guys? is it because the pillow case we used contain some left over traces of washing powder? which is fatal? dont have any other clue, appreciate any advise. thanks :-?
  20. thanks for all your advise people. emm....troublesome indeed, looks like i must get rid of him now....
  21. Thanks Brad. just got him yesterday. very aggressive. this morning i discovered fins from my 2 adult angles were damaged, it appears to b they(this fish and my angles and perhaps my aro) had a ferocious battle in the night. now my angles are wounded and stressed.
  22. can every one see the pics now? i also added some photos of the "clown loach" to point out this fish is not a clown loach.
