  1. No Jayci can only take the Angels - said the Plecos a little too big for him. If you are serious about taking him I could deliver him. I really don't want to put him down! My Son-In-Law is coming to Auckland on Friday and again on Sunday.
  2. Some can be replanted Caryl (I've already re-planted them every morning this week) but some are looking so tatty now that I don't think they will survive. He lopped the top clean off some and some have lost most of their leaves! I think if the plants were more established they would be OK but my quarantine tank is not big enough to house him until everything grows. I don't think he means to ... hes just such a big lumbering, clumsy thing. Shame as the other fish love him. The corys lie all over him and he doesn't seem to mind ... and he's very careful when it comes to the other fish ... if only he would be that careful with the plants!
  3. I still have not found a home for this Pleco and my newly planted tank looks like a war-zone. I'm gutted. All that money on plants for nothing! If I don't find someone to take him this week I'm gonna have to put him to sleep. How much clove oil would I need and whats the best way to do it? He measures 25 cm nose to tail. Thanks
  4. I watched mine take a large bite out of a new plant yesterday and promptly spit it out - just checking I spose. Check out the following article. Its a list of plants and which fish like to eat them ... it says the Angels favourite is Val http://fins.actwin.com/aquatic-plants/m ... 00269.html I did read somewhere else that they need to have Spirulina regularly in their diet. Maybe that would deter them.
  5. I have just the thing on my garden lights - an Arlec digital timer. Plugs into the socket. It is capable of turning on and off up to six times a day seven days a week. Once set, you can turn it off manually anytime with the press of a button When finished just press the button again and none of the settings are lost. Very handy! Think I got it from Mitre 10 or Warehouse or somewhere cheap.

I have an AquaOne 500 and also an Eheim 2300 and both are great ... but the Eheim is slightly quieter. Both do an excellent job though and I have them both in a 400 litre tank.
  7. Thanks Michelle. Its changing all the time as that Pleco has a hidden talent for decorating and landscaping. I say hidden coz he works mostly at night
  8. Mine won't eat the flakes either. But they love the catfish pellets and spirulina.
  9. Really?? You lucky people! I'm so jealous
  10. Ok .... try again I'm having trouble getting individual photos to link. Soo after much ado I'll just post one of completed tank. Still quite cloudy so will post some this week when water its easier to see http://www1.snapfish.com/slideshow/Albu ... _=75412825
  11. Thanks Blue and Kim Yes I've figured that out now. He didn't say it was illegal in NZ just in the Waikato. He's got his wires crossed me thinks.
  12. So mine is probably OK as its tall with thin leaves not wide as AlanMin described. Cool coz I like it. Thanks
  13. Oops - Sorry Moderator - this should have been in freshwater. Posted by mistake. Also the photos are all linked to the same photo and I need to change them. Can you delete the photos please and I'll try again. (Sorry - was up til late setting tank up
  14. Hi all Picked up the new tank yesterday. I'm having problems getting my plants to stay underground thanks to the larger-than-anticipated pleco! Hes looking for a home as are the two lg angelfish (see PT&E). Tanks is still quite cloudy so will post some better pics tomorrow. Mod Note: Have edited pics out Lady Lene so you can start again - Afrikan The water is still a bit cloudy so will wait and take some more photos when it settles a little. Cheers
  15. Hi all My LFS tells me I'm not supposed buy twisted val and that it is banned in the Waikato and considered a noxious weed. Anyone know if this is true?
  16. Black widow tetras: jump clear out of the water at feeding time and its only a matter of time before they end up on the floor like Hummingbirds paradise fish  Honey Gouramis: Little mating ritual is sooo funny. Zoom in and out like they are gonna kiss several times .... then sidle up head to tail and swim round and round in circles. Other fish are totally mystified and just sit oggling them! But my favourites (until my clown fish arrive on Sat) are the corys. They flit up and down the front of the tank all evening looking for attention. They've got this kind of 'wiggle' going on and its cute as.
  17. Hi Bulldog Both set to 26. When the temp reaches that (faster with 2) they both switch off.
  18. Oh Man .... just bought a jager, then came back and read the comments! Heres hoping the bad batch is finished
  19. I thought of that HummingBird but the tank doesn't get any sun at all and the light goes on and off even when the temp is already reading 28 and yet the heater is only set on 25. Seems like the thermostat is dodgy.
  20. I currently have a Jebo which I find useless. Temp fluctuates all the time. Also have a small Masterpet for quarantine tank which also fluctuates between 24 and 29 within hours! Sux. I've yet to see what my new tank has .... only one week to go til I get it ..... :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Cheers thanks for that.
  21. Yep - I'll never use it in the tank again either. But thought since I had to learn 'the hard way' it was nice to have sumptin good come of it
  22. I overdosed my tank a while back with Algae Fix (lost my harlequins in the process) But the good news is that I have no more snails! The shells turned white and 6 weeks later ... still no snails! Hooray - what a bonus!
  23. Someone on TM told me you can get glosso from your nearest stream as its native to NZ
  24. Hi all Just sussing out the heating for new tank (roughly 400 litres). Be enough? Not a lot of price difference so could go 1 x 300 and 1 x 200. Also - fav brand? Any thoughts
