  1. Cool ... ta for that. I'll try some variety as suggested. All except the mosquito larvae ... I have such a bad reaction to mossie bites that I simply can't do it! I just know one would hatch and find its way to my bedroom at night  I normally use Aqua One tropical flakes but I'll try some variety as suggested. I didn't know there was so much! Already tried peas but no-one would touch them and I had to vacuum them out again the next day! Think I'll try the pellets after dark too coz those tetras divebomb the first three pellets that go in (they never reach the bottom) then the gouramis get the next two. So I drop some over the other side but by the time the pellets are soft enought for the corys the tetras have finished theirs and are on the loose again like sharks! They play rough! I was scared they would choke trying to eat them before they got mushy but they haven't yet :-? Not sure that I would care now I like your idea Caryl - starve the little blighters til they eat what they're given (used to work with the kids). My fish definitely know me now and they greet me in the morning. The platys nibble at my fingers when doing water changes! So cute ... and rewarding Anyhow thanks heaps - you all rock!
  2. Mine have got very fussy. Won't touch flakes anymore (except the Platys) so I tried granules and also freeze dried bloodworms but they won't have a bar of it. All they want to eat are the pellets I put down for the corys. Both the Tetras and Gouramis are just downright rude and shove the poor wee bottom dwellers out of the way. Disgusting little pigs really. What can I entice them with?
  3. Yep I know - I have a bid on it Thanks Alan - I'll watch out in the spring under your listings  Cheers for that
  4. Ok so let me get this straight .... Bicarb raises the kH (and the pH in the process) and the higher the kH the more stable the pH. Now ... epsoms raises the gH. What does gH do? and what should it be on? I never test the gH (even though its in my tester kit) Thanks in advance
  5. So do aquarium plants mostly grow seasonal? I'm having trouble getting Dwarf Sag (in particular Sagittaria microfolia). Cheers
  6. There has been some recent discussion on the CF1200. See Post subject: Air in my filter??? in the Technical Forum.
  7. Aw shucks ... don't I feel silly  I would have planted that in the foreground coz it was 'dwarf' Had no idea it could grow that big. (I've been researching plants for the new tank). Does it come in a 'non-dwarf' version and if so who has a tank tall enough to accomodate it?
  8. Hummingbird ... nice tank. What is the name of that tall reed-like plant in the backdrop?
  9. Thanks for that ... At the risk of sound stupid ... where does it go?
  10. If mine gets air in it I never suck on the hose. I simply tip the filter over toward the corner with the pipe that goes down inside of it (not sure what its called). It does a little splutter and hey presto. Then tip it back up slowly. No more sucking water :bounce:
  11. Thats exactly wot my hubby said. 'Just wait til they get bigger and I'll fillet them'. Perish the thought!
  12. Oh man I was hoping they were puppies! No Snookie the guy doesn't know and I don't pick up the tank til after 14 May so I have to wait. Rest assured though if they are tinfoil barbs I'll not be keeping them as I want to make this a nice planted tank!
  13. Cools thanks for that! Will have 190cm of fish and recommended is 215cm I think?. Once fully grown though that would be 277cm (not that I could let those clown loaches grow full-size) so best to run the Aqua One as well. Can't over-filter can you.
  14. Yes ... well that would explain it .... there is no 2228!
  15. Ta Alan - thats 2228 right? I tried googling it and only seemed to get parts etc. Been to about 20 sites! No my day.
  16. Quick fix hey! Don't you love those. Took me ages to figure out that I had my intake tube too close to the air bubble hose !
  17. Can anyone tell me how much does one of these babies push through in an hour? Also will it be big enough on a 400ltr tank by itself or will I need to hook up my Aqua One CF500 for a bit of extra grunt? Ta
  18. Just curious . . . How does UV (filter?) work?
  19. They sound like tinfoil barbs I agree. Who has those? From what I've read they can be quite agressive and grow to be quite large (40cm)! Not sure if I want them if thats what they are!! :-?
  20. Thats what I first looked up - but do they come with black tails?
  21. Dunno - Just purchased a beautiful new tank already stocked with fish (haven't picked it up yet). The guy sent me a list of the fish and these were the only ones he couldn't remember the name of. Could only describe them to me. I thought either barb or tetra but I've looked at photos galore and can't find them! Yet I know I've seen a photos of something like that before! Oh well ... I guess I'll just have to wait til I sight them - It'll be a nice surprise
  22. Any idea what this description would fit? 'small silver fish with orange fins and black tail - very active' Thanks
  23. Had to put two of the corydoras down. They appeared to get a little better with the tonic for white-spot and ick but after dosing the tank about 6 times I finally gave up. How did you go paekakboyz?
  24. Ok - so still have to do it the hard way. Heres a money spinner .... some sort of gravel syphoner (bit like a pool skimmer) that runs around all by itself (on a timer of course), measures how much water it took out, then triggers a refiller that measures out water and ager and heats the water to desired temperature on the way thru, replacing the water taken. Ooooh you could even dial-up for meds if you need them! ... Then switches itself off til next time. Bet you all would buy one of those hey!   Did you know you can heat your shower water like that now. Heats only the desired amount (as you use it). They are supposed to be pretty good too.
