Be careful when using polyester resins and gelcoats with fishtank bits and pieces. They will leach styrene monomer solvent gasses for at least one month and this is very permeable in water. If you are going to use a resin for sealing my pick would be solvent free 2 part epoxy's.

If your unhappy with the local reef community looking at other options, try telling your "LFS" that competition is healthy for all of us.

Reef is suggesting that the RRP on these skimmers is $520

My LFS indicated to me that they were going to be over $500 easily so if you can get one for that price grab it with both hands. Will be interested to hear how you get on

Im just in the process of setting up a new 4ft tank. Im about to fit a weir for the overflow to feed the sump. My question is can i feed the skimmer directly from the overflow with a spare pipe for the excess that the skimmer cant handle? Im trying to avoid running a pump to feed the skimmer.

Im thinking of doing the same thing with my tank. Bio balls in the overfow with filter wool on top. Ive seen this done at redwood aquatics in Chch and it seemed to work great.

If i scrape all the flesh off then then dont seem interested. These guys are known for picking at corals and the way they bite chunks off the rocks i dont think the corals would last long. Is there a salt water live feeding fish? Whitebait maybe?

I currently have a guinea fowl puffer, a porcupine puffer and a stars and stripes puffer in my 400ltr fish only system. Cant run corals with these guys cause they bite at the rocks to keep there teeth down. I started to think that they are getting bored in the tank so i added a few mussel shells after feeding them the contents so that they could bite and chew at them. They loved it but not long after the ammonia levels started to rise(im guessing cause of the flesh left on the shell). Has anyone got any ideas for entertaining these guys without side effects?

My tank has come out in a light brown fuzzy growth on the rocks that is slowly turning deep red. Im just gonna wait it out and see what happens.

I dont want to side track the reactor debate but can someone please tell me the difference in quality of water from different priced RO machines? Im looking at three at the moment on tm and am a little unsure.

Just put in a 400l fish only system in August. Looking to switch to reef after Christmas with the help of some reef buddies from work.Love reading these forums as they are so helpful to us newbies
