    Sick Fish?

I had similar symptoms when I had my Oscars, the culprit was hole in the head. Have a look on the forehead area and look for small pinhole sized holes. Are they coloured up or losing colour. Any other symptoms?
  2. Make sure you have coral in the tank so the fry have lots of hiding place and you should save some.
  3. That is a pity, would have been interesting to ID the fry. If they are that size then it might very well be them breeding. They should breed soon again and then you'll know.
  4. Mine breed and they are large. In my experience the male will defend the fry until they are 1cm plus. Mine even try to attack my hand when I feed the other fish frozen food. The ones I grew out were about 5 cm in size and have not bred. What size are they? If they breed at 4 months I would be surprised, most cichlids take longer to breed. I might be wrong as this is only my opinion, mine started breeding at about 7 cm and that was at about a year of age. Hope this help, anyone with different experience welcome to give their input, we all here to learn.
  5. Cheers Luke, looks like I've got 5 males and one female. Anyone have some for sale please let me know.
  6. How do you tell the difference between male and females, if possible?
  7. Well done, they are beautiful fish. I have 6 myself and will give it a go as soon as I have my second fish room setup.

    Tropheus

Thanks for the fry, now I have 6 species . Can't wait for them to grow out.
  9. Hi After some young CT and HM fighters. Hamilton area, but travel to Auckland once a month. PM if you have some, will consider all offers. Cheers
  10. Every couple of weeks, had a look this morning and eggs are gone. Catfish had another feast. Will move rams to breeding tank and see what happens.
  11. Being a cichlid man I thought it to be a good time to start a community tank with some Angels and Blue rams. Got some Neons, cory brislenoses and plants and away I went. The Albino angels spawned within the first week as did the rams. The catfish had a feast and I moved both the angels and one pair of rams to breeding tanks. Had 3 batches from the angels and they have eggs again. Have lots of fry growing on. Rams have spawned several times, but male keep on eating eggs. The second pair spawned in community tank in pit dug in sand. Will move them to breeding tank now. http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k61/m ... CF0004.jpg http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k61/m ... 12. There are heaps of people keeping those. Sure someone will be able to help you finding some.
  13. I like the "peacock female" best, what is next??
  14. The hardest part is getting the fry past the critical couple of weeks after free swimming. They are one of the hardest rainbows to grow on. Even the orher ones like Boesmani is hard, but if you have enough time and heaps of greenwater you should be good. Remove the eggs daily and transfer to hatching tank with same water parameters. Good luck and keep us posted.
  15. Are you having a go at breeding those black leleupi eventually?

Hi They will start changing at about 4-5 cm. Some might take longer, depends on the fish, but most change around the 5 cm mark. The dominant male will colour up first, the others might stay blue until you remove the dominant one. Cheers
  17. Mine is from here, but if I understand right the original breeders are from Christchurch. They have been around for a while. OOA bred them.
  18. Hi Mark I have some similar in size, think we got it from the same source. I've seen the parents and they are some of the best looking fish I've seen. My males started to colour up at about 5 cm.
  19. Are they in the tank by themselves? When I got mine they hid away, I put some Dolphins and Peacock pair in with them and they swim around now. Will remove the other fish when Fronts show signs of breeding, but they all get along no problem. Dolphins have bred a few times. They are in 8 foot with bright 40watt 4 foot light.
  20. They are bumble bees.
  21. Thanks all, think they need something microscopic, they look like glass slivers. Still lots of eggs, so will be more fry. Supasi : First have to see if I can get them growing, will have to get rid of some if I get them growing. Will keep you posted. Thanks Tiden, something new so will see how it goes. Neon Dwarfs are spawning in their tank now
  22. Hi Got home yesterday after a few days away and found my Boesmani have spawned and have lots of eggs. Removed parents and this morning found heaps of fry. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Have greenwater to feed them. Anyone breed these and what do you feed the fry? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
  23. Try again, first one worked.
