Hi all. Just had to share this. I imported some tins of AHT BBS eggs 10 years ago and kept them in the freezer.... I found a tin Id forgotton about in the bottom of my FREEZER the other day and thort Id see if they were still viable (thinking yeah right). Well blow me down... not only are they still viable Im getting an easy 90+% hatch rate within 12-16 hours. Boy Im glad I didnt dump it but I am wondering if this is "normal"...not that my fry care :bounce:

Java fern seems to do well in my grow out tanks but only fake plants survive the punishment that my adult africans dish out. Mine drag em, play tug'o'war with em, push em, pull em, dig em up and of late my jacob seems to have fallen in love with one of them :oops:

Hi guys. Nkhomo-Benga Peacocks are Auloncara Baenschi. They are also known as New Regal Yellow, Auloncara Benga, Yellow Regal Buntbarsch. So many names for just one fish :roll:

The advice I was given when I was looking into getting a colony was to sell off the dominant male particulary if he became overly aggressive and let the next male step up. He will in turn bully the next male in line so sell him off if excessive aggression occurs. You will eventually end up with one male (hopefully even two) and in doing so harmony will reign upon the tank Of course its pretty hard to let go of a nice speciman to one that isnt as nice but I guess at the end of the day its either a tank of harmony or hell. I do hope you end up with a few girls. Sounds like youve got a few boys in there.

Malawi species....oh and now blue neon tux guppies I cut back on my malawi species but suffered major withdrawl symptoms so I've gone back and I'm feeling much better now

It certainly looks like pumice that I've come across, however there are other white volcanic rocks around too. Ive never had the slightest ph changes using pumice. Its basically vescular glass but I started using it on the off chance that it would increase my ph levels then gave up and decided that since Id gone to so much trouble Id keep using it anyway. Its got more pros than cons in my opinion, the biggest con is that it will shred your hands if you are handling it for any length of time. Big pieces look like rocks under water and it looks good in African tanks especially if you can find the real white ones. I've gone for the smooth pieces rather than the type pictured cause cleaning them is a nightmare when youve got nooks and crannies.

oops...what I meant by weighing it down with a brick was you have to keep the pumice submerged whilst boiling it and then keep it submerged while quickly cooling it down. Pumice is inert too so it wont alter your ph. It is also a great place for good bacteria to thrive in.

Hi guys. I bin using pumice for years in my tanks. Dont bother trying to weight them down unless they're really small pieces cause they will come up fast and smash your lids. The secret is to boil it, then plunge it into icy cold water. Will have to weight it down with a brick or something. I had quite sizable pieces in my 6 ft African tank and it literally took hours of boiling before I could get them to sink :roll: I've found its best to carve out caves in them once they've been submerged for a bit. Lake Taupo after a storm has its shores in areas littered with the stuff. I dragged my huge bits up from about 20 metres one day when diving.

djsurfs - the shop I bought it off sorted it for me with no hesitation. This was years ago now so I wouldve thought the manufacturer would've made improvements over time. I've never had one since but I would certainly be asking questions about these tanks glass integrity before I got another one (only because of my past experiences with them). As tHEcONCH said, they are very popular tanks and I know people that own them who have never had a problem. Just out interest tHEcONCH was your tank replaced?

No your probably right. Maybe because the stands were optional at the time, they didnt question me or maybe times have changed :-?

I guess I was lucky then. I wasnt even asked if the tank was on a factory stand. It was replaced without question.

A few years ago now I had this happen to me with an Aqua one model (smaller than djsurfs tho). It was replaced only to have the same thing happen twice more and the cracks were always in the bow of the glass. Needless to say I gave up on them in the end, although the service was great, the tanks lost my vote of confidence.
