    R O water

If you on tank water like me... think of installing an accumulator so your pump does not have to kick in every few minutes which will be hurting the pump/electric motor they don't like starting and stopping continuously. It will also help with the throughput through the ro unit. Also remember that you have diffirent rated ro membranes ... typically the higher flow rate the more expensive.
  2. I think you meant 1ml per 100 litre unless you meant dose it personaly via oral intake
  3. Okay,... and who squirts the left over of the contents of the test solution (in the syringe) down the drain after you finished testing... I dont  not sure if I am going to either.
  4. Wasp awesome... just as i was pondering what to do to set mine up
  5. Hmm like the look of those pumps... think you have started something puttputt..
  6. May contain phosphate, I have two drums that have been left soaking and in the sun and rain etc... still leeches po4. As I run saltwater this is no good...
  7. Nice pics . unidentified fish looks like Red Moki. Wonder if a spearo had a go at him many moons back. Which is naughty as they are way to easy so are left alone.
  8. Hmm thanks. reckon the iv line thing might be the go then as the normal airline tap keeps clogging.
  9. AAAAAaaarrrrghhhh.... frustrating the cr..p out of me. Okay tantrum over, share your secrets plse. I have 7l tupperware container with an airline joiner through the tupperware. Used the soldering iron method to put it through, that worked well. Very short piece of airline hose and small airline tap. To set it to drip rate is a mare, I turn it all the way in and then open it slowly. Some days i get two days of good drip rate, then it completely goes awry. I do not have any hose on the outlet side. So my issue seems to either be hardware, setup or incorrect way of setting the drip rate. So what do you other guys that use kalkwasser use? Chrs
  10. My tank is newly established and found similar issue, I have a marine aquarium encyclopedia that states this is normal for a new tank. Make sure your other water parameters are correct.... ca, mg, po4 etc Mine slowly started coming right and ph slowly increased after a month or two.
  11. time to start tweaking those streams :-?
  12. I Have Laguna 6 ... cant hear it at all

    plug in RCD's

Suphew,... swap ya for a new one
  14. Surface skimmer takes the crud off the surface of the water... as lots of crud ends up on the surface it is an efficient way of removing and keeping the surface clean. An overflow weir can effectively be a surface skimmer. it always removes the top part of the water column. Protein skimmer extracts organic material out of the water by creating lots of water bubbles and the organic material sticks the water bubbles. The top bubbles have more organics attached to it and is collected by a cup and then thrown away.
  15. Hey Krama, you been quiet, Been away? Time for you to pay me a visit, I have things up and running...
  16. It sucks in water from the bottom, the bottom round section has a rotating sleeve that acts to control inlet volume. The water is then expelled along the top slit. You should be able to buy media at your Local Fish Shop. Or cut your own out of any filter media. Found the manufacturers web site read more here http://www.sicce.com/prodotti.php?fam_prodotti=0&id_sez=6&id=39
  17. I flagged the durso and went full siphon with a second smaller pipe as backup/overflow. I am really happy as it is dead quiet, only tricky thing is getting the balance right for your return. So I recommend having a valve that can do fine adjustments on your overflow and a T section on your return with another vlave to spill excess back into your sump so not to restrict pump. I aimed for about 50-70 mm water height in overflow weir for the height of my siphon pipe and it worked perfectly..
  18. Oops... covered in this thread http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/plug-in-rcds-vt18043.html
  19. I have two different branded plug in type RCD devices. One Arlec the other is HPM. Both trip when there is a power failure. Is this by design? Annoying as return remains off until I reset the RCD. What do you guys do?,.... other than throw money at it and put critical pumps on UPS.
  20. I am assuming the skimmer is the culprit... will switch all the lights off tonight and get the big torch out..
  21. Thanks Jetski,... hehe funny kit does the rounds eh
  22. JoeBlog... the barrels, I found out later contained ingredients to make hand cleaner.. I originally asked and was assured that it contained safe ingredients that do not harm the environment... should of asked more questions... Cracker.. Aye.. as your keen eye spotted it is 1250 turbo. Still having a play and getting used to setting it correctly. I Have quite a bit of micro bubbles making it to the display so need to play with some temp baffles to try and reduce them.
  23. Eventually sat down with a cold one to put together this post. Tank build started approx August with arrival of drilled tank. 1500 x 600 x 600 Cabinet did not suit a proper sump... Planned to open up cabinet with this.. completed that which looked like this.. Mean while back at the ranch bought some old rock and started cooking in a barrel... smelly business sump design... pretty simple... Painted back of tank. I had to cut a hole in the sump bracing to allow for the return. Drilled a hole with a glass drill and then used a ceramic hack saw length blade to free cut the elliptical hole. I was surprised at how easily glass can be cut. Planned on using an Oceans Motion 4-way so lots of pipework I am fortunate as the sunken lounge allows me easy access through the wall to all that nice and cool space under the house :bounce: 4-way currently suspended with rope while the pump base is sorted. using an Oceanrunner 6500 for the 4-way closed loop. Tank top, the 25mm is the return from the sump fed by a laguna 6 situated in sump. The 32mm on either end is part of the 4-way closed loop. Running a 32mm full siphon and have a 25mm emergency overflow that is plumbed into a drain below the house. A 3-way valve allows me to pump water back up via the 25mm overflow for water changes from the garage which is below the lounge. Currently tank is cycled and have a couple of mullet and glass shrimp in there to help get things going. Have taken the bigger mullet out after it would eat everything that was put in the tank not giving anyone else a chance.. Had to use fish hook and pillie Actually released him and did not end up in the bait fridge.. Lights is series3 Arcadia with 2 Actinic and 250W MH's Biggest problem so far has been phosphate with the tank I used to cook the rock was leeching phosphate so the rock is full of it... running a heap of Rowaphos to help clear it up... hopefully over the worse as readings are now below 0.1. from a reading over 3 A few large including a 100% water change did not fix phophate, reading would be off the chart 3 days after a water change Skimmer is deltec 1250 on stilts to get water height correct. It does make it awkward to clean the collection cup as space is tight due to high water level in sump. At this stage still tidying things up and trying to get my head around kalwasser dripping and dosing magnesium and calcium. And trying to bring PH under control.
