  1. Looks good, you should have used a level though, it looks a bit wonky. Pie
  2. ? Does no one else see the irony in this? You see one article saying that after reading one artice people belive it, so you belive the one article saying don't pay any attention to single articles as that doesn't mean they are nessessaryly true. According to the one article. Pie
  3. That looks to be a fair price? could be a bargin? Pie
  4. DSB. There was an article in Coral Magazine about how Plenums don't actually work. I am sure someone else read it and knows the article. Pie
  5. RnB I think Reef is taking the piss. Remember your thread about and my tank never looked better... Pie
  6. I think it ruined the show knowing they wouldn't be found. Pie
  7. They also require special bulbs designed to run vertically as opposed to horizontaly. Master Trade in Tawa has new phillips highbays with 4000k bulbs (400watt) on special last week for $89.00incl. Pie

Don't under estimate the medias need to sensationalise the 'news' to put you into a panic, they always have 'experts' on telling us worse case sceneiros for everything, personaly the chances of much television journalism being corrent or even close are slim. The media has an agenda. I am sure everything will be fine, sure a few species will be made extinct by out use of technology, but with technology comes progress and that brings new tools for us to identify more new species, this returning the ballance. 1 goes away, 1 more gets found. Even. Pie
  10. Yah I have logged over 30 dives on Tioman, Rengis, Tekek etc. Awesome diving, great hard coral. Although brown is a very common colour on the reefs. Pie
  11. Had completely finished loading for me in a few seconds. Go the 100mb bundles here at work pi
  12. Sipidan is quite famous in dive circles, as is much of bourneo and micronesia, those who have watched Survivor Palau will know exactly what I mean. Next trip to asia will definatly be checking out somewhere like this. Good photos. I see there were attaked by a Queen Triggerfish, funny because so have I, scary as all hell those things. Pie

They do? Me personaly. We have been working on frags being worth $25ea. I think its a fair price for a good condition coral. I would rather swap, but often refuse to give corals away, as have spent thousands on colonies myself. Also I think if they are too cheap/free they are less likley to be appreciated, and I want to know they are going to survive, as it takes ages to grow them. That being said there are many people I have given frags too as well, knowing that they will give me something one day or may help me out with other things. Stick to your guns, $25.00 is not a lot of money and seems a fair price for an captive animal. Frag should be in good condition, attached to a rock and be of a reasonable size (bigger than a thumb). Pie
  14. Lots of different sorts growing, about 5 differnt calurpas, some reds and calcerous stuff as well as other bits and pieces too. Not sure of names. If I get a chance i'll snap off a pic and post it. Am using 2x 250watt 10k BLVs reverse light cycle 12 hrs a day. Pie
  15. I am using 10k BLVs on my refugium, and macro algae has gone NUTS and I prune every 2 weeks. Pies

Travel and collection time, + time to travel etc are the point I am trying to make. I live in Wellington, you don't need a boat or scuba to catch crays here, so the only costs are your own time. If someone here said 'hey pies, send me a glass shrimp and i'll give you $10.00' i'd probably so no, can't be bothered not worth the effort. Pie
  17. Why not use a handheld device like a PDA or similar? Certainly would look swanky and they have nice screens these days and are cheap as chips. Pie

Nope. "Tell him he's dreaming" Pies
  19. Chimera, got any links to glass tanks in that configuration? I'd like to see how they did it. I've only seen it done on acrylic tanks so far. SAN Pie

Lied or didn't read it? If not reading a EULA before agreeing to it is an indication of poor character, or makes someone a lier, then I am am one dishonest mofo. He has lots of positive feedbacks which should speak volumes. Also as for a case of value, like my crayfish example. Just because you think a glass shrimp isn't worth $10 but a crayfish is don't mean a thing. The fact that someone would pay $10 for glass shrimp may seem insane to you, but its worth what someone will pay for it in the end, I think someone who would pay more than 20k for a car or anyone who lives in Auckland is insane, but thats not to say they are. If his advertising is misleading, well if that was against't the law companies like Air NZ, McDonalds and KFC would have been shut down decades ago. Let the buyer beware. Pie

? I am really surprised by this thread. What if he was catching crayfish and selling them in a roadside stall or to neibours etc. The crayfish cost nothing so would that mean that $10.00 is too much for them? As for his age, who cares. I wouldn't care if the person I was dealing with the 15 or 50, as long as they didn't muck me around. Age has little to do with maturity. If you old enough to buy for a shop in town then your old enough to buy and sell and trademe. Pie
  22. Chimera - Honesly I don't know, and I know what your saying. Have you ever put a straight edge along the front center of your tank? How much deflection do you get? I guess this is the key. Personally I think its a bit of a kamakazi pilot idea and wouldn't consider it myself. Not sure if the PSR system would make it better or worse. I do know that glass is incredibly strong, but it doesn't take much to break it if pressure it put in the right place, and I see the 'overlflow cutout' being a likley place to start a crack. Maybee it would work, but how would the SAN factor be (Sleep At Night). Pie
  23. Given the location of my tank nothing I would really change, lighting, plumbing etc are all spot on. Pie
  24. Chimera - no doubt the most pressure is at the bottom, but when my center brace came un-glued on my 5 footer there was maybee 2 inches of deflection at the top of the tank, which puts a MAJOR bow in the 10mm glass. If I had the notched overflow no doubt it would have just split. Pie

4 Grand for lights? In all fairness how can you be even remotely concerned about the power costs when you are $2900.00 more expensive from day one! hehehe. Piezola
