  1. Is it a G4? Janes birthday present. I got the nano, not sure which one I will buy her. Pie
  2. I just brought one (ipod) abd am looking for another, let me know what it is and I may buy it from you. Pie
  3. If you make the assumption that your 'make up' water is PERFECT. And you are happy to conciede that when water is put into your tank, it becomes imperfect (via depletion and polution) then the conclusion would have to be that the more frequent the water change, the better. Even if it was 100% per minute, that would be better than 100% per hr. However it would be a logrithmic decrease in benifit as % and frequency increases. Pie

I find it hard not to agree with this myself. I've been told my tank is a timebomb, DSBs don't work and coral colour in my own tank only comes from phosphate resin (because it leechs iron or is a 'band aid' for my poor sandbed technology). But i've not seen pics or evidence of Laytons tank (cept the time he posted a pic of someone elses tank) to show why his theorys are right. Just non-stop digs at Zeovit, hints about why its bad and links straight from google referencing information that doesn't appear to be relivent. Also i've never seen Layton once admit his is wrong, or may have more to learn. Argue a 'point' for 20 pages, sure. Layton I am keen to learn, and I am sure you have a lot of good information to share, but how about trying to meet us half way. Also take some photos of your progress no matter how good/bad it is. This would go a long way to building some credibility. Now i'm not hunting great colour at the expense of everything else. But I am hunting a healthy tank with good growth and long term sustainability, coral colour is important, but so is low maintenance. My last post in this thread. Pie
  5. Ahhhh see, the power of the veritile streams comes into play. The Seio work out poorly if you have to replace them with Streams anyway "For sale, Seio power head, perfect working order, DIY whacking stick included (its a brick taped to the end of a broom handle)" Incidently the bricks are high in Iron, thus starting your pumps and colouring your corals at the same time Pie
  6. So does that mean you got a 'good' one or a 'bad' one

    tank progress

Agree. Cookies tank was looking top notch when I visited a few months back, has inspired me to remove some rock from my own tank. A+ Pie

The worst thing is thats about the most constructive thing posted in this thread since it started. Pie
  9. The 80s were cruel, I can assure you I am much better looking now. LOL Not sure I would call a pump starting when you turn it on 'wanky', but hey, some of us have different expectations than others. Seios are funny. Infact anything you have to hit/kick to make start is funny. . Pie

Be over 2500 litres of water, so yeah, made no disconcernable difference at all.
  11. Too much flow? Surley you jest Don't forget the one with the driver can be adjusted from 30%-100% too. So maybee you can use it now, then if you need more flow, you can crank it up. Reliability, versatility, flexibility and power all in one convienant package (Tune, can I have a job?). Pie
  12. Not even close. They are approx $450ea, for the 12000L hr model with the driver so you can run them from a wavemaker. There is also a 12000L model that doesn't pulse, which is cheaper (about $320 i think). No disrespect to the Seios, but be fair when comparing them to the Streams. It can't be a good sign to know you have to knock the pump to make it go. Can it? Pie

It takes a lot to move the salinity though. We syphoned out about 3x 10L buckets on Sunday for TomGun and I just replaced it with about 30L of freshwater. Either my refractomoter is broke or it made no difference. Salinity of NSW here is about .026 once its warmed to 25degrees. Don't forget temprature will effect the reading. Pie
  14. I have 3 streams in my tank, 2 over 2 years old, 24/7. In all that time i havn't had to kick start any of them... And they are what, 4x more powerfull? Ohhh and did I mention they work every time, without having to bang them against a brick wall... Pieunze
  15. Mine cost $80.00 which I felt was a bargin at the time, nothing wrong with $120.00 for something thats going to look top notch. Pie
  16. Mine is push fit, for exactly that reason. I see no benifit to screwing it in place, there is no reason for it to be reasonably water tight at all. To me, it seems a little 'kamakazzi pilot' to assume that you will never need to tap of the tank return, too much left to chance. I have a tap on mine, and have used it on many ocasions. Pie

Ummmm what was wrong with the coral picture? Was that it was brown? If so doesn't that just mean that its a brown coral? I've seen lots of brown corals in Zeovit tanks. /me is confused. Pie

I don't heat it up, although it would be a good idea. Mine goes into the sump. Pie

It looks OK to me, cept it looks like its broken off and has fallen to the floor. Pie
  20. I am not sure thats right. I would say the lesson to be learned here is always put a TAP on any holes you have drilled through the bottom of your tank. My standpipe just sits in the bottom, so if I ever had to replace it or clean it I can just pull it out. Pie

Ive used it within an hr of being in the ocean, after a day, a week and a month. Doesn't seem to make any difference. Pie

    Coralline Algae

Yes its possible. Not sure you will have to do anything, it will just grow. Some say get a rock or a scraping from someone elses rock to get it seeded but I don't think you need to. Coraline will grow best in medium/low light. Other than that, it just happens. Good luck with the puffers. Pie
  23. Slappers. Make sure you paint the side of the glass before you wall it up. Otherwise the side will be reflective, which looks a little odd in my opnion. Looking AWESOME though, can't wait to see how it goes. Pie

    Photos Please!

Its rust. Basically the xzoo on the coral absorbs the iron from the zeovit. Then its just a quick logical to the iron rusting on the coral and 'waaala!', orange corals. Havn't you guys been paying attention  Anyway - Wasp the corals are looking awesome, hope to one day get some corals in my own tank looking half as good. Keep it up and keep the photos comming. "Fire Fire

Ummmm yeah, lucky. Lucky you din't burn the house down too. Invest in an RCD, they cost less than $150.00. How much is that skimmer worth? How much for the cat? Or the house.. Pie
