  1. Hmm .. ok. No Goldfish then. Its just that I'm looking for some coldwater fish to go with my WCMMs. Any suggestions?
  2. Will they eat my WCMMs? And they do well on flake foods right?

  4. Thats the EXACT problem I have Alex. They are in an outside tank, and they absolutely REFUSE to eat flake foods. I've stopped feeding them for 3 days and then relented and gave them some but they just snubbed me off. Ungrateful fellas.

    Sand

Ahh ok. That clears things up. On a side note, is there any places in Chch where I could grab some sand and gravel and possibly a piece of driftwood? If not I did just buy it.
  6. Everytime I fill up a tank, I've noticed that there are air bubbles stuck to the sides of the tank. Is this normal?

    Sand

Thanks for the replies guys. Greatly appreciate it. So basically, assuming I have an empty tank, this is the order of how it should go: 1. Fine sand 2. Coarse sand 3. Dinner plate 4. Jug 5. Fill water into jug

    Sand

Sorry, I think I'm not being clear enough. I'm not using an undergravel filter, I'm using one of those box filters that you leave submerged underwater with an air pump pumping air into it. Think that will be fine with sand? Else I did use pure gravel. I was hoping to mix some sand and gravel but whatever doesnt clog the filter will be fine.

    Sand

Ohh, thanks for that info. I'll check them out when I have the time. But I've heard reports that sand isnt a good base because it could clog up the filters. I'm using a underwater filter, will it be fine?

    Sand

Alanmin, which nursery do you buy it from in Chch? I too am about to setup my tank and would like to get some sand.
  11. I like the way it looks though. The way I see it, I have a carpet plant, a medium sized plant (the mouse ear) and the tall one. What can I take to replace it?
  12. Hi there, I am about to setup a freshwater unheated tank. These are the stuff I'm going to put in: Base: Sand Ornaments: 1x Driftwood Plants: Java Moss Oxygen Weed Stargrass http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/0004-3319-3326-3347-/auction-48216423.htm Saururus Cernuus http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/0004-3319-3326-3347-/auction-48500479.htm Fish: White Cloud Mountain Minnows Filter: Small internal filter Tank Size: 2 feet long, 1 feet tall and wide Lighting: Unsure yet. What would you guys think about this setup? Edit - Err, I meant the plant setup.
  13. Ahh ok. I'll try to keep an eye out for eggs I guess. I couldnt wait for more fry so I went out and bought another female. The first 3 seem to be happily swimming about but the new one is no where to be seen. Is it shy? Also, they dont like eating my food yet. I have been holding them back from food for nearly 4 days now and they seem fine. I threw in some and they dont eat it. Could they eat Oxygen Weed or Java Moss? :-?
  14. Would they be maybe the size of this dot? -> . Also, it is alright for me to starve the fish for a couple of days? I was told that after buying them I should let them settle down before feeding them. Or will they eat off my Oxygen Weed?
  15. Ohh I see. Hmm, thanks guys. I'll ask if I'm concerned with anything else.
  16. How do the eggs look like though? And do they like Oxygen Weed?
  17. Hmm ok, I'll do as I've been told. However, it seems that I've overestimated. The actual tank size is actually only 2 feet in length. :-? Will that be big enough for the WCMMs? Also, how do the eggs look like? Will they lay eggs in Oxygen Weed? I was actually going to go buy a couple of clumps of Java Moss but the LFS is closed on Tuesdays. I plan to keep them down with some rocks. On a side note, the WCMMs seem to be taken with the Oxygen Weed. I've anchored the plant using some rocks and they like to hide underneath. One disturbing thing I've noticed is that some of my Oxygen Weed has just turned brown overnight. Whats wrong?
  18. Hmm, ok, perhaps I'll put everyone into a small tub first till I can get some families going. How would I get infurosia? The thing is, this really shouldnt be classified as a tank, its more like an outdoors .... tank? Well something like that anyways.
  19. I do not plan to seperate the parents from their children, but how do I feed both?
  20. Hi there, I just got a big tank (around 4 feet long, 3 feet high and 2 feet wide) and some WCMMs together with some Oxygen Weed. I bought 2 females and 1 male. Anyone know how I can induce them to spawn later? The Oxygen Weed isnt anchored down, and its just floating around. I might throw in a piece of driftwood in there though. Anyone have a site where I could see how to breed WCMMs?
  21. Ahh, I get it. All driftwood should be fine right? I plan to buy one soon from a LFS. Nothing fancy, just a small one. Thanks for your help.
  22. Hmm, so basically I just tie the plants to the driftwood? How would I know when the plant has established itself? Will the roots grow in to the wood? My tank will be unheated, so the water will probably be below 20 during summer and definetely below 10 during other seasons. I've seen a few nice ones, and I'll try to anchor it. Some of those look really great.
  23. Hi there, I am about to buy a small tank, around 2 foot long, 1 foot wide and 1 foot high. I will mainly just keep WCMMs, and this tank will have no heater. What plants would be good for this? Its a small tank, and I'll just be putting in some river stones, a small piece of driftwood and some java moss. Is there any plant I can put that will survive an unheated tank? Edit - Ohh, I forgot to mention, I would prefer hardy plants. Thanks for your time. Edit edit - How the heck does one anchor a plant to driftwood/rocks?
  24. Well, what I actually wanted was to put the parents in my bedroom and keep them for show/breeding. I will remove the fry into a seperate tank for feeding, and once they are big enough, I will throw them outside into a wine barrel or something and let them do whatever they like. But I will keep the original couple in that tank though.
