Is there actually a reason why its black though? Is it genetics? My female from the same lot doesnt have eyes like it at all.

I was just taking a few pictures just now, and came across a few scary things I've never noticed before. 1. My male guppy has COMPLETELY black eyes. Its just basically 2 round black things. He can see well enough I'm sure, he was just chasing a female around just now, and could run away from my net when I tried to get him. Is this a dangerous problem? I dont know how I missed this for so long. Also, how can I differentiate between markings and fight marks? When I used a small light to try to get a better picture (my tank has no light, and it's only source is the window next to it) I noticed the male guppy had red marks on it. Now, I do not know if the guppy is just maturing properly and his colours are finally showing, or if he and the other Betta in the tank are duking it out. I doubt it is the Betta though, he just sits in the plants and sleeps all day. The Betta rarely comes out of its hiding spot, and runs away when I get close. The rest of the fishies (WCMMs, Swords and Guppies) dont bother going close to his hiding place anyways. 2. SNAILS! I just saw a few really really tiny ones in a small bucket where I left some plants to grow in. I assume that the snails must have already gotten into the tank, will this be a huge problem? What steps could I take to remove them? And pictures (for Loopy, I apologize for the lousy pictures.):

Actually, I retract my previous statement. GBAs are relatively cheap, but the postage is insane! I dont suppose anyone in Chch has any for sale? Else I would consider another members deal! 8)

The prices on GBAs make me cry. I'm thinking of getting small ones so they are cheaper, but at what stage can I sex them? I might go for a trio maybe. Of course, if anyone has any they are willing to sell, gimme a PM, I appreciate it. 8)

The 10 - 20 cm ones sounds great. I'll probably go for those. What about Gold BNs though? Are there such things? I saw one for sale on TM.

Cool, thanks for the informative replies. I have a 3 foot tank, so I'll probably go for BNs then. Seems Plecos grow too big. Are they as fancy as the others though? Also, I might PM a few of you in case I'm interested in acquiring a few BNs. Edit - Can a M/F pair do well in a 3f tank?

I want one or two of these, and I have a few questions: 1. Are they the same? 2. How big do they grow? 3. What are some nice but reasonably priced ones? 4. Can a M/F pair live together happily? 5. What do they need? I know they need some driftwood, and probably a cave of some sort. But anything else? 6. What should I feed them? Cucumber everyday? 7. If anyone wants to sell me some, please post a picture or something. Thanks for the help.

I recently bought a 3f long, 1f wide and 1.7ishf high tank. Any recommendations on the filteration? I'm fine with any filteration system, as long as it does the job. The lid I'll have to make it myself, I'm not too sure how yet though.

Hmm, thats quite difficult isnt it. Based on the description, I assume that this will will be in the way of my lid?

I'm about to get a bigger tank, and what to know whats the best way to grow plants so I can stock it? I only have some Red Rotala and Java Moss at the moment, but I might get some Ricca and maybe Java Ferns. I want to grow them as fast as possible, in a span of maybe a month or two. Any suggestions on how to do this? (I'm only growing it cause as a student plants are quite expensive, and growing your own should be funner. 8) ) Also, how does one anchor Ricca to the substrate? I'm using gravel around 2cm ish (in size) and its around an inch thick from the bottom of the tank. My Java Moss is going to be anchored onto the driftwood and around, and I was hoping to use the Ricca as a carpet.

Hmm weird, maybe its cause I've been feeding flakes for the past year or so, and the tubifex for a month or so. So what I tend to do is give two feedings, tubifex then flakes in the evening. Hopefully they get used to it.

Is that good or bad? I would assume the tubifex would be more nutrious to them. I mean they eat the both foods, but they seem to enjoy eating flakes more (immediately coming out of hiding when they see flakes, eating like they havent been fed for weeks).

Luckily before Loopy sells it, I have the honour of picking one or two or maybe three for myself. On a side note, I went a certain unnamed and asked for the price of a big piece of driftwood. Around 1.5 feet tall and long. They told me it was worth $60. Thats not normal pricing now is it? Maybe I gotta go find some of my own driftwood somewhere.

Just temporarily though, the fighter and the guppies are all still juveniles. After a few weeks, I'll have the new tank ready and the others can move into it. But it should be fine for now right?

My current tank is a around 1.8f, but I'm upgrading to a 3f tank after my exams are done with. So having multiple males should be fine, I might divide my old tank up. I have guppies, WCMM and maybe swordtails in it.

Hmm, now I'm confused. I dont know what to pick! I'll probably get one or two females then, and maybe a male once I'm confident they settled down properly. Any other input/advice I could get?

How much do Betta's go for? I'm looking for a ... male maybe, or female. I've read that females look nearly as good as males, is that true? Anyways, I wonder how much a nice one would cost over here in Chch. Any ideas? Of course if any member would like to ship one over, drop me a PM. Provided I could afford it of course.
