  1. Daily is what you need to do I think its for 2-3 treatments and then again a week later to break the cycle as the metro will only kill the worms and not the eggs.. Unless you're treating a tiny tank you probably don't have enough to do much.. Also remember that metro isn't the be all and end all of treating worms it is only effective on certain types of them so might not do anything at all.
  2. Metro should be easy to get if you have a friendly vet, hopefully you can ring and talk to them and only pay a dispensing fee, if your unlucky then you need to pay a consult and maybe take in the fish.. Most important thing about treating with metro is it only lasts 8 hours in water so you need to dose it daily with water changes 1 400mg tab per 40L of water. Tropheus good link, how do you go getting prescription drugs sent into NZ though?
  3. Sorry to hear about your losses Sounds like you did everything you could to make it work out something random must have gone wrong, or like you say it was the stress, how long were they in transit for? Can't help with the cheap pairs but I do have jullie marlieri young for sale if you wanted some of them pm me..

    bulging eyes

Hmm I don't really know then.. Have you tried googling "pop eye in tropical fish"? That might give you some more info apart from that I don't think ive seen it.. I thought it might be what my fish sometimes get from grazing against a rock but that is white on the eyes.. Pop eye is generally linked to water quality problems, but if all the other fish are fine could just be something random with one particular fish.
  5. Awesome news I am glad to hear that the move went well Sorry we weren't closer and able to help
  6. I guess it depends where you draw the line.. I would be asking the question as to why hormones are needed in aquariums if they are not needed in the wild (assuming noone has been puring hormones into these fishes habitates for years keeping them breeding).
  7. Id say filling fish full of hormones to enhance colour steralise fish or screw with nature is a bad thing.. But that is just my take on it, I wasn't aware there were people around who did it in NZ?

    bulging eyes

Generally it is a sign of an infection.. Are the eyes white and bulging? Is it in both eyes or only one? Any other symptoms?
  9. lol I wouldn't mind scoring a solenoid too if anyone has one spare (obviously after TM has found one..) have been planning something like this for my fishroom didn't think of a washing machine to get the parts.. Not trying to pinch your thread TM just been following it for inspiration too
  10. Unless they are known by another name no.. Here is "the list" http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/files/bi ... 364-ft.pdf
  11. lol was confusing me I thought you had gone out and seen ant's tank and were commenting on it Make sure you do your resarch before buying fish or ask for advice on here and you will be fine
  12. You have sponges in the 2 standing up trays don't you? I would just stick some sponge in the bottom of the bottom tray and load the rest up with bio media.. Bio media is one of the most important things in the filter and you should try and get as much as you can in there. If you want substrate for your african tank that is white you should try and get argonite (can't spell it) or crushed coral.. Keep an eye out on trademe or make a post on here it can be hard to come by at times but marine guys use it all the time.
  13. I always thought that daphnia fed on algae and stuff in the water and would be no threat to fry.. Unless of course you introduce nasties like hydra or anything like that..
  14. Demasoni you need to make sure you get at least 12 of them they do best in larger groups, and you may have a problem when your giraffes get big that they may be able to fit them in their mouths. I don't know if it would happen because Dems are pretty quick but its just something I had to consider for my tank and I moved my dems out. Johannii are cool, a little bit harder to get real ones with all the blue melo's and other randoms floating around, if you don't want to breed from them then these randoms are still cool fish which you will enjoy. bumblebee's aren't all that colourful, males go jet black and females stay brown with black barring should be easy enough to get some of them. As for adding fish and them getting along peacefully you are getting into africans so who knows what will happen, they are aggressive and terriotorial. Best bet is to add more fish the same size as yours and let them grow up together and sort themselves out as they grow. Also don't add more than one species of peacock with brown females (unless you're doing male only) as you wont be able to tell what is what if you wanted to get them out again. There are some pics of my 5ft african that took me a few years to stock here I have bred or am attempting to breed from most of them.. http://s47.photobucket.com/albums/f183/ryanjury/
  15. Tank looks cool good work Good luck on breeding the cardinals there are quite a few articles on the subject including a good one on the fnzas site somewhere.. I think the main problem was fish getting older and egg bound from not spawning, so don't wait too long before trying to breed them.
  16. I sent some fish yesterday overnight from bulls to Blenheim and they were fine.. Just don't use courier post
  17. There are alot of fish you could add to your tank did you have any preference on colours etc that you would like to add? Buying adult fish can be hard, are you after males and females or males only? Maybe you could get in touch with Tropheus and see what he has ready to go?
  18. I would say they wont colour up until very late if they are in a tank with larger fish.. Mine seem to be quite shy so that is why they are by themselves again as I want them to colour up well
  19. Most of us got pairs of bitaeniata also mine are nearing spawning age and have just gone into a breeding tank as well Panduro are awesome little fish too, hopefully will get some one day
  20. I got mine from Alex fully sexed at 6-7cms male had definate colour and more egg type spots (not a full big egg spot like some peacocks) on his anal fin. This colour disappeared because I had them in a mixed tank with some other larger fish while I was away to minimise tanks.. I have since got them into their own tank and the colour is returning, do you have yours with anything bigger/agro that might be suppressing their colour? Heres my boy a few months back
  21. lol would take you up on that if I have any luck and if the chch people cannot supply you with some before me
  22. Very aggressive fish only suitable for keeping with other cichlids.. Probably need a 3ft tank min apart from that very hardy and easy to keep.
  23. I have probably 40-50 fry due to go free swimming in the next few days fingers crossed Mark, how are you planning to hatch the babies? Meth blue and airstone?
  24. When they can fit it in their mouths they can eat it What have you bred?
  25. Edit - Billaney please cut that out. All that is going to happen is a lot of editing and ends up with a ban We are with ihug (now vodaphone) for phone and internet and they are good unsure on their policy with new connections etc though.. For power we are with energy online.. They are alot cheaper than anyone else we have tried and give a 20% prompt payment, again I am unsure how they are with new connections. Maybe do a ring around and try and sweet talk people I am sure they can waive the connection fee as it will be stuff all compared to what you will spend with them..
