  1. I recently got a common commet... First I noticed he/she had lost a few scales.. I wasn't too woried... maybe due to knocking them off... However three months on about 6 scales and missing and the tail seem to have a split in it.. This tank is a fully cycled 50gal, is this fungal? The fish is fine.. do I deed to treat it?
  2. Thanks for all the time and effort Wayne you put into my post... SHould I bee concenerd about my other fish in that tank.... They show no symptoms.. The tank is about 37gallons I have a fluval filter and a underground... the temperature is set at 26 and varies from 25-26.5... I have had no neon deaths what so all.... however about 3 months ago I lost some Zebra Dainos which is scary because they are so hardy.. The clowns were feed on Nutrfin flakes, spirlena tablets and sinking food, occasionally bloodworms(not for awhile though and they mess the tank up). I do 1/4 water changes once a week, with aqua plus that has been left for 10-15 minutes... However I have had problems with green water, nice and unsightly
  3. sorry hes gone , such a shame good wee bugger.. got him for me birthday from the bf
  4. These to clown were separated from my 4 other clowns because they were getting picked on a month ago.. all seemed well in the tank...
  5. I have a 1 sick clown out of 2... it breathes rapidly or floats around rear bottum of tank... then tries to swim.. it has also gone dark around its head ammonia:0 Nitrites:0 Nitrates: 5 Other tank members... 2 swords, 5 neons,1 small red tail shark in 30g fully cyled tank fine.. Any suggestions welcome...... Cheers
  6. I was always told the are extremely intolerant of its own species? Oh well.. I guess I'll have to deal with that problem if It ever comes to it
  7. I got it on Saturday... been active ever since I put it in the tank... Been hanging out with my Clown's and swords.. mainly Clowns which I didn't think it would do... Great fish He/she seems to be going for alage... not keen on spirlena tablets yet.. Apprently u have to be careful to block ends of the tanks so they dont fly into them and kill themselves during feeding... Mine doesn't seem to swim THAT fast...
  8. I was recently given a Red Tailed Shark and I have been told many condricting stories about what to feed it... I have Nutrafin flakes.. sprilena disks...bottom feeding pellets Is it true they are herbivorus?, in which case itl only eat spirlena disks?
  9. The bacteria has been known to be affected at high pH's and nirtrites can be affected..... ie less than 6 but I don't think Fishless cycling would bring this on as water has to pretty neutral for us to drink it without burning our thoarts

    Green water....

I've heard you can't have daphnia and fish together? is this true?.... I spose I could just move the c. loaches... its just they swim FAST and are almost impossible to catch.... Hmm the water has gone almost cloudy now.. hmm does this thou every time I get my hopes up...
  15. When I recently aquired a new tank.. this sparked some interest from me.... Has anyone tried it? I had trouble locating ammonia hydroxide, I guess chemical suppliers would stock it...... I should ask my chemistry teacher at school... Personally I think its a great idea, no stress or undue harm to the fish only thing is the intial test kits would be $$$ but u should really have them anyway Or do u perfer the old fashioned way...

No its between 2 windows... I have been watching all day for the past week (due to school holidays) no direct sunlight full stop....My parents are complaining about its unslightlyness.. and threaten 100% water chnages grr they dont understand.... Unfortunatly my bedrooms already filled up with 2other tanks... SHould I carry on with the frequent water changes??, or am i making matters worse?

    Green water....

100l acyric tank, 2 tubes in hood (i have no idea wot they are.. came with tank i will be changing when i have the $$, ones purple and ones green) I have 4 6-7cm clown loaches... I have a fluval 3 plus filter which im not happy with so ive got a(cycled) bio wheel going too.. Tank has been running fully cycled 3 months... no nitrites for a month atleast since heh about water changes.. im not happy with parents sreaming about slight wet patches on new carpet in living room... i do lay down towels...
  18. In one of my tanks I have a case of subborn pea soup water.. other 2 are crystal clear...... Suspended free floating alage ACK I have tried to address main causes... There is no direct light.... light is on a timer for 8 hours a day... I use a low phopohrous food... Nutrimax tropical flakes.... Nitrites were a problem... last month I have been doing 10-20% water changes every 2-3rd day which I'm don't happy doing.... I have tried the good old method of completly covering the tank for 24-36 hours.. with no real success.. slight improvement but worses in a day again... I don't want to use a alagecid.. (i dont want to destroy beifortical bacteria) but do I need to use more drastic measures? if so what can u suggest? Cheers
  19. I have 2 canary Swordtails and 5 Zebra Dainos at the moment.... It can get a rather expensive hobby I have discovered.. heh so im building my stocks up slowly.... I'm planning on setting up a malawi chchild tank someday... perhaps when I win more than $50 on a instant kiwi....
  20. Hey guys... I have been searching for a New Zealand fish forum and FINALLY found one.. while the American ones are great for advice I really needed one closer to home... As quite often you need a little more advice from the petshop worker who doesn't know a thing about fish. So its good to to talk to people who have been through what you are going through..... I'm 17 years old and kept Goldfish (as we all do) for the past 14 years I recently got into tropicals and loving it.... I currently have a school of 4 Clown Loaches.. I have 3 tanks.. 20 gallon, 15 and 25 Cheers guys...
