  1. Yes, I give peas a vote of confidence with both guppies and siamese fighters.
  2. They've settled down now. Maybe they were just wanting to mate. They're all in a 2 foot aquarium. I'm wanting to get a bigger one, but not til after holidays.
  3. My fish seem to be fighting lately. My neon tetras have broken up their school and nip each other whenever they encounter each other. My largest male guppy has it in for the minnows. My largest minnow has it in for the guppies. Why do they all want to eat each other all of a sudden? They're well-fed and have never quarreled like this before!
  4. One of the sacks fell in by itself and nobody's eaten it yet. I just haven't seen any babies. How do I know if s/he is fertilizing them or not? And, while we're at it, the other snail, the white one, is digging holes in my tank. What the heck is he doing?
  5. OK, some of mine are darker... do I put them in a cup of water? How do they stay warm if I do that?
  6. How long did it take yours to hatch? Mine still haven't.
  7. No action in my egg sacks yet, but I have heaps of those little ugly baby snails that came in with my plants as well. If I see anything come out of the egg sacks in my tank, maybe we can compare notes. I'm up to six sacks.
  8. You guys do not want The Warehouse to start selling fish. Wal-Mart sells fish in the states, and those fish are in sad conditions in the store and are usually in a sorry state when you get them home. They're kept in little plastic jugs like the ones you get take-away Chinese food in. Very very sad.

    Sick Betta

    Aww. Sorry for your loss.

    Floppy Fish

I put him into the pitcher with the squashed up peas in it. He wasn't feeling too well so he didn't eat much and eventually went back to flopping on his side, so I figured that was enough. He is still not his old self; he occasionally gets tired and tips onto his side. But he is nowhere near as bad off as he was, and is upright most of the time, eating well, and able to swim about the tank.

    Floppy Fish

The baby guppies are in a separate tank from everything else. And I didn't put the peas into the bigger tank, I captured the floppy fish in a pitcher of water and let him eat as much as he could before putting him back in with his tankmates.

    Floppy Fish

Well, he is now upright most of the time and back to chasing the females around. He is a bit wobbly but mostly fine. That's one vote of confidence for the pea treatment, ladies and gentlemen.
  14. Four egg sacks now, no baby snails. How many can s/he lay?!!!!!

    Floppy Fish

He does seem better every day. However he tires quickly and then starts swimming on his side or back again. Does anyone know if complete recovery is possible?
  16. I think the point of the thread is some people don't know what proper regular maintenence is? I have no idea how often I should be cleaning mine for instance.
  17. It looks like I learned the hard way, too, with my filter. I hadn't cleaned it for fear of destroying the bacteria culture in my tank. I only did so after one fish died and another got sick with swim bladder. So, undergravel filters are 2 to 3 years? Does anyone know what sponge filters might be?

    Floppy Fish

He's got some of his buoyancy back after two days of pea treatment. I'm still not optimistic, but am continuing the treatment.

    Floppy Fish

No change. I treated with a pea, but I don't think he is going to make it at this rate; he hasn't shown any improvement.

    Floppy Fish

If he makes it through another night, I will try to give him peas. I am working on the water quality issue. My filter was pretty clogged up but seems to be back in commission now. I really can't isolate him to force him to not eat; I only have two tanks and don't want to endanger the fry tank by putting a sick fish in.

I did a google and it sounds like an air bladder thing. He's still flopping about. I don't know what to do with him.
  22. My minnows seem to lose their colour when I've had the light off for a wee while, and then go back to normal. Go figure. He doesn't look sick from the pic.
  23. Once i got up to 6 neons they suddenly got hardier. I now have a school of five and "Cartman" who is usually away from the school eating.

    Floppy Fish

One of my male guppies has gone floppy. He is swimming mostly on his side and flopping over. He is flopping all over the tank. Does anyone know what this is, or if anything can be done? I'm guessing he will be dead by morning but I guess it can't hurt to ask.
