  1. I thought albino was usually recessive and two non-albino parents could have an albino baby. I used to have hamsters and I had albinos and partial albinos. The partial albinos would have no pigment except in their eyes.
  2. It's looking less cloudy, but what's worrysome is that the little guy I moved back hasn't completely unclamped his fins yet. How long would it take to recover from 24 hours of bad water? Well, I'll have to leave home ot do the bank deposit, but I could use a little trip into the city. I bid on the kit.
  3. Age: 24 Gender: Female. Family: Nobody in New Zealand except my sweetheart/partner. Hobbies: Writer. Used to do some sculpture, too. The name and author of the last good book you read? I'm reading The Bone People by Keri Hulme right now. Type of vehicle you drive: Don't have one. I used to have an '86 Saab and a Subaru WRX in my home country. favourite food: Tacos and buffalo wings. Where are you located? Wellington, Thorndon area.
  4. I've heard of partial albinos in other animals. I'd have to see them to decide, though. Pity he hasn't posted pics.
  5. Well, the new tank could cause the clamp fins, right? Here's one question for ya. I had moved one really pretty juvenile male into the new tank and moved him back after his fins started looking clamped. He's still clamped up, though less so. But do I move him out of the bkg tank and back in with the sickies, or leave him with my older fish?
  6. I think it's just the stress from the new tank but I'm now woried as hell with this weird disease going around.
  7. If I were in Auckland I reckon I'd bid the $2.50 just to have a look.
  8. I really need to get those test kits. Tomorrow, I promise. I guess I thought that since my problems in the first tank soted themselves that I'd never need another tank. It's another 10 gallon. I was planning on getting rid of quite a few fish this weekend, and maybe even a trade with someone from here but now I know I can't do that because I'm not sure what's wrong. I'm also worrying that it was an unwise decision to move that really pretty male back into my first tank. I'll cry my eyes out if everyone gets sick. Though if it's just from the tank cycling, won't the fish sort themselves out in a few days?
  9. My 10 gallon tank has 6 guppies, two corys, six neons, and 2 white cloud mountain minnows. Plus the 42 babies of varying sizes. I really don't want to move the babies back, especially looking at the clamped fins. There's a fear that it will spread, though I did already move one fish back. He hasn't completely unclamped yet but seems better. I don't know what to do.
  10. I've been told that it depends on the fighter--it's best to find a fighter that's been in with a bunch of other colourful fish at the breeder or pet store and hasn't attacked them.
  11. I moved my babies toa new tank and they now lok like they have clamp fins. I'm scared now. I don't want all my fishes to die.
  12. I had 42 baby guppies in my tank that were clouding the water. I set up a new tank and was only able to cycle it for a day before tossing the guppies in. I haven't had any deaths, but they're looking stressed, some with their fins clamped, and the water's looking cloudy. What am I doing wrong? I can't move them back to my other tank. It is only a 10 gallon and I was afraid they were going to kill everyone. I moved the largest of the babies back, because he's a pretty leapord male, and he's looking quite a bit better after 2 hours back at "home." (I'd actually moved him out because I was wanting to give him to a new home, but if the fish don't de-stress I don't feel I can give them to friends.) What's wrong with my tank? How long does cycling take with a bunch of fishes in the tank? What am I doing wrong?
  13. I'm still worried about him. He's now kind of hiding in the plants.
  14. If I can get rid of some of my baby guppies or move them to another tank, maybe I can get a couple more corys. He is up now and eating; he just let the big guy eat first is what it looks like. Or maybe he ingested a baby guppy and now has a tummyache. (Just kidding about that one.)
  15. I have two cories that I got from Animates. One is big andone is little. The big one moves around the tank and hunts for food, the little one seems to keep to himself in one place and only eat occasionally. What is the normal activity level for these fish? Is my sleepy one sick?
  16. Jeez, I am definitely not buying any more guppies now even though I want another female. OK, if anyone in Welly who's having to start over wants baby guppies, I am up to 30 babies and 9 adults now in a 10 gallon tank and some of them need to go to new, loving homes.
  17. I went to the Kaiwharawhara one. Maybe they've gotten them in since I visited. I visited just after they had the new tanks put in and didn't see any guppies for sale. I would kind of like another female as I've now got 4 beautiful males to 3 females and what looks like another really pretty male on the way. Of course now I'm scared of them getting The Disease. So maybe I should just wait for my fry to grow.
  18. I'm so glad I didn't buy pet store guppies. I went back to the Animates where I tried to buy guppies before and didn't see any, and this was just a week ago. Of course, I now have 25 guppy babies as in a 10 gallon tank as I bought healthy guppies from a breeder. I haven't had a single death yet.
  19. None of the other fish look bad at all. The tank had been going a week before I put them in and all of them lived for I'd say a month before this little one died. I also have guppies and two little minnows in my tank. The mollies have sadly passed on, as well, but that was shortly after I got them.
  20. I got the Tetras to cycle my tank; I wanted a few more, but when I went back to the store, there weren't any left. I'll get some more soon. Poor little guy.
  21. I had four neon tetras in my tank. Three grew steadily; the fourth got smaller and scrawnier. He broke away from the school and the others began to pick on him. Last night, I noticed they wouldn't let him eat. I scared them away and made sure food was right beside his mouth, but he still wouldn't eat. I asked my more knowledgable partner what to do; he said to buy a couple more tetra so they wouldn't focus on giving the little guy trouble. Unfortunately next thing I knew, I looked over at the tank and the snail was eating the scrawny tetra. I smacked the snail with a spoon, but the tetra was already dead. What could have been wrong with the poor little guy? And is it something the rest of my fish could catch?

    Sick Mollies?

    Sounds good to me.
  23. I spoke too soon. They're back, but they've lost their colour. Come to think of it, it looks like my Tetras are losing their colour, too. :-?
  24. Melanie

    Sick Mollies?

So, how much water shall I change and when? Like 25% weekly, or do I need to do it twice a week?
  25. Mine's too low, then. I need to move it up a bit farther.
