Twas the Thursday Before Christmas...

... and not a fish was stirring, or at least not till about 9 o'clock when the ells first started to make an appearance then the shortjaw kokopu came out.

This was Stella's introduction to the native fish life in a Pirongia stream as she rebooted the mind.

We saw about 1/2 a dozen eels and about the same number of kokou at this site, then spotlighted on the track out of the bush on the way to another site where we found dozens of Cran's bullies, a few eels and koura. Then the rain came and we headed back home at about 11:30 as some of us had to get up at 5am to go to work :yaw1:

First the eels:

Then the Kokopu:

Then the other night-life:

Nice pics, especially the kokopu - you don't want to know how long I was staring at the third one thinking 'what am I supposed to be looking at here?'

Nice photos, due to the flooding at my bach over NYE i mangaed to find 3 eels around 60-80cm long swimming in my garden . Was a very interesting sight to see.

Did it work? Is Stella's mind rebooted?

WOW, that kokopu photos is amazing!! I need an underwater camera....

I didn't take any fish photos, but I was quite pleased with these two:

it was a great night out, thanks blueether! My reboot worked fairly well and am currently getting rid of malware and restoring programs.

Hi stella, love that little weta pic, so cute.

The avatar is labled as "Galaxias maculatus (Inanga)" on the Te Papa page and "Night Trout, Galaxias Paro(sp)-Punctatus" on the image.

Galaxias Punctatus, Günther 1866, is acepted now as Galaxias maculatus, Jenyns 1842, but I too thought it was a Spotted Galaxias. I would so love one of them in my tank, they look so neat.
