Hello from Taupo New Zealand. I have just completed setting up my first freshwater tropical aquarium. I have had a few disasters, but all is ok now, thank god. I have a silver Shark, Neons, ruby red siamese fighter, a golden Gourami, a couple bottom feeders, and a lovely soft glistering blue fish (dont recall his name). Im addicted something cronic I think (so what). I enjoy reading through all the questions and comments on this site. Im learning new stuff all the time, so thanks alot everyone for your inputs.

How many shops are in Taupo, Mothertrout?

There used to be one down the front, a long skinny one,

and the other I knew there, was a small one up an alley.

Are they still there?

Are there any more?

Hello Alan

We now have 2 pet shops in Taupo. The one across from Farmers shut down a while back. The one up the Alley (Urban Jungle) is still operating, but is very slack, hardly any stock. However, we have a new pet shop opened recently, and it is awesome!! (The Pet Shop Taupo) It is just up of Spa Road, Oruanui Street. Full of stock, loads of fishies. I am a regular customer and they treat me well. I thoroughly reccomend it!!!!

Welcome to the fishroom mothertrout. We are all addicts here!

Don't hesitate to ask questions and never assume your question is stupid.

Perhaps we will see you in the chat room some time?

Welcome mothertrout,

good to see incredible enthusiasm !

Sounds like the bug hit like a mule, looking forward to some more of a good thing.

Sounds like next time I am in Taupo ( bungied about a year ago) I have to visit your local fish store.

Talk to you soon and keep up the happy happies

:D  :D

Robbo

Check out the Molly-hunt that is coming up soon across the other side of your puddle at Turangi, at least you don't have to pay for your fish, and you can have fun too.

Alan

i was talking to someone the other day about the molly hunt

and they think the mollys will die when u take them home

unless u take some of the water with you and slowy chanes

the water to the get use to it what do other think about this?

I think it would be a matter of what water conditions they need (ph, kh etc). I would think you could keep them in a tank if it was legal.

Great to see you here mothertrout :) Yeppers we are all fish addicts and the water is fine :) :) I too have neons and some golden gouramis. Not in the same tank though. The neons are in with my discus

That is the normal thing to do dennis.

Then get them use to your conditions.

Take some sort of equipment to test the parameters of the water.

ChrisL,

What do you mean by "if they are legal"?

Of course they are legal.

Alan

I just thought they needed a person for it or is that for the trout? And don't go at me saying 'of course it is legal'. How would I know, can't even find them on the net.

Chris-

You can't find anything on mollies? You sure you're even looking?:) Try googling for "Molly fish" Comes up with 179,000 results of which it looks like at least the first page every single thing has to do with mollies.

They're just commonly kept mollies that people have let loose in the wild, they're not an NZ native molly or anything like that.
