was away at the weekend at a 4x4 comp and came home sunday night to find that my community tank had crashed 7 dead neons female krib 3 bns and 5 guppys :cry::cry: and a young fighter    im gutted have been keeping fish for a couple of years and ive only lost a convict cause he got beat up i havent been able to work out what happened but i think it could be somthing to do with a raised gravel area over half the tankthe gravel was about 6 inchs deep wit no ugf and me thinking it may have had a build up of toxins have since moved the fish to my other tanks ad all ok what suprises me is that the plants are thriving .so i know have a widowd female krib male fighter and male bn so if any one can help it would be great

 imo i would think that if you had a build up of waste that had accumulated amoung the heaped gravel then yes it prob was the cause , did any of the other fish show much signs of distress, ie flashing and rubbing against gravel or rock etc,

just out of interest, what sort of filtration do you use. how many tanks do you have running normally. we must meet up sometime. :):)

ive got a 6 foot cichlid tank a 3 ft electric yellow breeding setup my community which i will be redoing this weekend a tank for fry and a native brackiish tank i just had a internal filter in the tank that crashed but all my other tanks have ugf and internal filters and ive never had a prob till now

give me a buz somtime 3438876 will catch up

What do you mean by "crashed"? There could be a number of reasons why a number of fish died over the weekend.

Did you test the water parameters?

Was the filter running correctly?

Is the heaterstat working and temperature stable?

The death of one reasonably sized fish (through old age, fight or disease) could lead to affecting the water enough to kill others.

I have very deep gravel in parts of my 4ft community and it has been going about 5 years now and doesn't have an ugf either.

 :bounce: wow luke that six footer must be an awsome sight, i will contact you sometime and i could maybe bring over a few beers and i could have a geez :bounce:

when you disturb the thick part of your gravel does bubbles come up that smell like sulphur and is the gravel underneath black?
